Ok guys, wife and I and family members booked our first cruise to sail out of NY on board the Carnival Legend. We are going to dock in San Juan, St. Thomas and Tortolla. Anyone ever do this trip? Any suggestions for first timers? What are your experiences and "must haves" when you sail? If you have done this trip any favorite places in these ports or definite shore excursions?

ANY info. is appreciated.... we are very excited and can't wait altho' we aren't going til next June. :D

Hi, sailed the legend and that itinerary for our first cruise last September. WE LOVED IT! Now we are hooked on cruising. Our favorite stop was Tortola, got a taxi at the pier and spent the day in Cane Garden bay which was a glorious beach day with crystal clear water and powder for sand. The ride over the mountain in the open air taxi is alittle harrowing but in our opinion worth it. Worst part is that you are docked there too short a time. In St. Thomas we arranged to meet a tour guide named Godfrey (check the St. thomas board). He was great very informative, met us at the boat, took us shopping, tour of St. Thomas and then drops you off at your choice of beach. We chose Sapphire Beach which was alot of fun, lots of waves that the kids had fun in. San Juan, now this was another story, we decided to walk around old san juan and walk to the fort. Unfortunately we didn't do enough research because we had no idea the bad shape old sanjuan is in. Every where we turned there were beggars and tons of homeless people laying on the streets that were visibily sick with open sores, etc..... something you never forget. Our next cruise stops in San Juan as well and we are thinking of hopping in a taxi and going to the other side of the island where the nice hotels are but unfortunately there do not seem to be very nice beaches there, still researching this. I think they should take San Juan out of the itiniery. The legend is a great ship, we loved it and the staff especially the waitstaff were so friendly, you will have a blast. Any questions let me know.
