Janteach Posted February 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2014 We will be in Nassau for a day with princess in a few days. Want to know what people recommend to do. Don't really want a beach day but don't like our options offered on the ship. Is Atlantis worth visiting
cruiseapril Posted February 20, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2014 Atlantis is a fun place, IMO. We have been there several times. We enjoyed The Dig-the Aquarium. Everything is expensive at Atlantis, but to us The Dig was worth the cost. Another time, we just took a taxi over to Atlantis and walked around Marina Village looking at the amazing yachts. Then we went to the casino. This is a low cost excursion. Nassau has many good excursions. Some do a walking tour from the pier to places like the British Colonial Hilton, the Pirate Museum, Bay St., and Graycliff (older hotel.) We always go away from the pier and Straw Market for excursions.
CruiseControl_ Posted February 20, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 20, 2014 Have you considered a tour? There are a few food tours that have excellent reviews. The one we took was Booze and Bites by Islandz Tours...very fun. If you have children, kids always love the Atlantis...for adults though I think there's so much more to Nassau :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
gardiner41 Posted February 20, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 20, 2014 Do you have more info and a link for the walking tour and other Island tours. We are thinking about a morning tour..walking or other that is a bit off the beaten path and then afternoon at Junkanoo for a couple of hours. Would love to see the forts and other historic sites..but a food tour sounds fun as well.

I can only vouch for two tours - Ive taken Tru Bahamian and Islandz Tours - Islandz Tours Bits and Bites was our favorite but we enjoyed them both. We enjoyed the tropical drinks at John Waitlings and the stop at Greycliff - my hubby loves cigars and I liked visiting the chocolatier :) Spots are limited for these tours so you may want to contact them sooner than later. Either way I think you'll enjoy.

tikib Posted February 21, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 21, 2014 We've done all three. My fav would be bahamasfoodadventures. It was a ton of fun. We got away from the downtown port area to see a bit of the "real" bahamas. My friends were thrilled. We weren't impressed with Tru Bahamian. Islandz Tour was good enough.. but I liked some of the bahama adventure tours better. More fun. We've done the cooking tour with bahama adventure, as well as the party bus. We've also done the rum tour at john waitling which is free and very nice, and the chocolate tour at Graycliffs for $10. (they also roll cigars). These tours are available as walk in's and are easily accessible from the ship. You don't need a tour guide, as they have their own on premise. CruiseControl_ Posted February 21, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 21, 2014 Hmm maybe we will try Bahamas Food Adventures next time. What was unique about it tikib? When you say "real Bahamas" Where did you go? Would appreciate more info :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

When you say "real Bahamas" Where did you go? Would appreciate more info :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The cooking class took place on the beach on south side of the island. This was SOOOO much fun and yummy. Some of the venues are mentioned here. http://www.bahamasfoodadventures.com/restaurant-partners/ But we also went to a club on West Bay street (a little strange as it didn't seem open), and a small cafe on the west end near lyford cay. I have the brochure at home, I'll post the names when I find it.

GA 30 Posted February 23, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 23, 2014 We'll be in Nassau on March 28th. The Bahamas food tour sounds great but would y'all suggest something else to a family (all kids> 21!) who's never been to Nassau?
CruiseControl_ Posted February 25, 2014 #13 Share Posted February 25, 2014 There is a Rose Island beach day excursion that has very high ratings on trip advisor. Great because there are so many options there - from games to snorkel tours, even a beach bar equip with direct tv and wifi....we've don't this before and enjoyed it very much. There is also a snorkel paddle board tour that's awesomeeee!! Its was 2.5 hours if you have less time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

MuffyKismet Posted March 4, 2014 #18 Share Posted March 4, 2014 We have been to Nassau many times before, but this last cruise in January 2014 we decided to take a taxi tour (since we have never done that before), we are really really glad we did, got to see so much more of Nassau then we ever would have on foot or just going on a specific excursion. Plus this tour left PLENTY of time to do anything else you wanted to do afterwards! He has a 2hr, 3hr and a 5hr tour (which includes lunch). If you would like his contact information just email me megator2@aol.com and I will be happy to share with you! He took us to Atlantis and the Fort and Queen Ann's stair case and tried free conch fritters (yum) and the wealthy areas and the poor areas (got to see a lot of Nassau we haven't seen before , and the beach too!!!! Like I said it also left plenty of time to explore and shop on your own too!!!
jorgfam Posted March 4, 2014 #19 Share Posted March 4, 2014 We also had a really great experience with taking a taxi tour in January 2014. We really weren't expecting much of Nassau and had no interest in any of the ship excursions. We were approached when leaving the port building. We normally ignore these guys, but these guys seemed really professional so we stopped to listen. I'm really glad we did, we had a fantastic time. That had some standard sights lined up, but the driver did a great job of tailoring our tour to our personal requests. He even showed us how the restaurants on Arawak Cay get there conch and how they get it out of the shell. We were in a van with 8 other people. I highly recommend Moss Taxi & Tours - Taxi #200, Driver - Leonard. (242)324-3501
MuffyKismet Posted March 6, 2014 #20 Share Posted March 6, 2014 are we allowed to put all that contact info on here for the tour operators? If we can then I would be happy to share the info for the tour we had in January. I put my personal email because I thought we were not allowed to do that cruise critic, someone please clarify for me. thanks

oldvato Posted March 10, 2014 #25 Share Posted March 10, 2014 We are trying to decide if we want to go in November. Does anyone know how the beaches and weather are during that time? I've heard people say that the beaches don't have many people due to the weather during the winter. But I'm wondering how they are during November. In fact, how would the entire cruise be, as far as weather is concerned, since KeyWest, Free Port and Nassau are above the tropic of Cancer, and don't appear to be in the tropics? I've never been to any of those ports so any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
