Mrsg324 Posted February 21, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) How often has Carnival been running the 50.00 deposit? I see they extended it until Feb. 23. We are planning a group cruise but I don't think everyone will be able to book by Sun. Sorry if this has posted twice. I thought I posted it already but now I can't find it. HLR Posted February 21, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 21, 2014 I booked yesterday....and with the upgrades and the fact that final payment isn't due until 30 days before sailing...I decided that even if I change my mind...I'm only out $50. If you miss the sale...the entire fare may be due at booking if it is less than 90 days prior to sailing [but don't quote me...there are always different specials] I think it is worth taking the chance at making a booking as the penalty is pretty minor if you cancel in time. Just some things to think about... I'm sure there are more knowledgeable people on here who can tell you more! HLR
hftmrock Posted February 21, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 21, 2014 while it is a good deal, please keep in mind that if you see a lower price for your cruise, you will probably have to put down the entire deposit in order to get the lower deal and they may or may not tell you about that. I have heard horror stories about people that didnt get an email about this and carnival cancelled their cruise. Just something to keep in mind
Mrsg324 Posted February 21, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted February 21, 2014 I have always paid a much larger deposit so I thought it was a great deal. I am considering booking a few cruises but not sure. We are looking at Oct. A bunch of friends from our high school days 25-30 years ago are looking at going. Still waiting on my agent to come back with group prices, wonder if they will be better than this deal. I hate not knowing.

I think what you are saying first is that is if there is a price drop and you'd like to get it... you just need to pony up the regular deposit...that is fair. But then I think you are saying that Carnival didn't email people to tell them about a price drop and since these people didn't renegotiate a lower price that Carnival canceled their cruise? Can you rephrase that part so I understand? HLR

I have heard stories where people see that the price of their cruise went down after they put down the $50 deposit. they called carnival and carnival gave them the lower price... Carnival DIDNT tell them that they have to pay the full deposit and then carnival says they sent out an email to the customer that they didnt get (this happened to many people). and then carnival cancels the cruise because they didnt pay the full deposit

Mrsg324 Posted February 21, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted February 21, 2014 Well, no $50 deposit for us. Knew it was too good to be true. Looked at the fine print and it is not good for Oct. sailing.s Oh well.
rccranbob Posted February 21, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 21, 2014 I booked the Freedom for the April 13 6 day cruise with the 50 deposit and was given the lower rate after 4 days. $200.00 less than was originally offered. I also had to call Carnival because the $50.00 deposit wasn't offered for the balcony's and the cruise specialist was able to get it for me. Thanks Carnival great customer service!
