Langley Cruisers Posted February 22, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2014 We just did this to pick up our Royal Caribbean ship. After reading some conflicting reviews and advice about walking into the port area if staying in a nearby hotel, we decided to check this out. We stayed at the Embassy Suites on Julia St., 3 blocks away. You can see the port from the hotel and there are a number of hotel options to walk from. The hotel concierge was absolutely adamant that we not walk; she advised taking a taxi and the special cruise rate (if you decide to do this) is $7.00 per person. The next day, a different concierge said absolutely we can walk in, people do it all the time! *sigh* So we set off this morning with two rolling suitcases and headed straight down Julia Street toward the pier and terminal. For us it was an easy walk straight to the porters who happily took our luggage right at the entrance to the pier area by the Whale parking lot (street level, there are no stairs involved). There were several police officers assisting as well. The porter tagged our bags and within 90 seconds we were walking into the terminal building which was just on the other side of the trolley car tracks. It couldn't have been easier. candydane Posted February 22, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 22, 2014 Thank you for posting this! We'll be at the Embassy Suites for our Canal Cruise and had planned to walk there. We have spinner suitcases so they are easy to handle. Good to know it should be hassle-free!
zootnarf Posted February 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 24, 2014 Most of our group will be walking from the Embassy Suites, too. We will probably be right behind you, Linda! :D Thanks so much for posting this info. I'd hate to lead our whole group down there, then have to wander around wondering if we could get in. Sammycupcaker Posted February 25, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 25, 2014 Is the Carnival terminal close as well? Would that be walkable?

Good to know you'll have our backs! That way if someone says we can't get there, we'll just point to you and keep walking. :D
jgmpuma Posted February 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 25, 2014 The Carival terminal is more of a challenge. You will have to walk two blocks or so along a roadway not set up for pedestrian traffic. Doable, but more difficult.
Sammycupcaker Posted February 25, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 25, 2014 Ok. That doesn't sound like something we want to do with 9,7 and 4 year olds. We are staying at the Residence Inn after the cruise. Pre cruise we will have a rental car.
