ontariotrvlr Posted July 23, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 23, 2005 We're travelling to Alaska for the 1st time on NCL Sun Aug 14 and are looking for some recommendations on excursions. Anybody have info to share on the following: -Tracey Arm Fjord & Glacier Tour by Catamaran -Bear tours (Anan Observ. vs Neets Bay via Floatplane vs Alaska Bear Advent. via Floatplane) -Recommended hikes in Wrangell and Ketchikan -Ultimate Yukon & Whitepass Train Tour -Renting a car in Skagway and driving to Yukon Any advice would be appreciated - Thanks. Shirleya53 Posted July 23, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 23, 2005 You are better off renting a car in Skagway and driving yourself. You see more and can stop anytime you want to. http://www.explorenorth.com/library/roads/sklondike-photos1.html
Budget Queen Posted July 23, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 23, 2005 You have an excellent varied selection. But I do disagree having done both the White Pass and Klondike Highway many times, the train is just excellent for history and superior scenery. A real treat if of interest. I have been to both Neets and Anan, with my clear preference Anan, (with a return trip for me in August). :) My favorite hiking out of Ketchikan requires a rental car and a drive out to Ward Lake and Preserverance trail, easy to include a side trip to Totem Bight- another nice walk. I use Alaska car rental.
