As garycarla already said, there are no formal nights on NCL ships, there are no formal restaurants either. Aft MDR and Le Bistro have a bit stricter dress code, but it is still far from formal. More info here: http://www.ncl.com/faq#packing

MDRs have pretty similar menus: one side of the menu is "always available" and it has small variations between MDRs but the other side of the menu changes daily and is exactly the same in both MDRs.

There are no photo packages to pre-purchase and what they do have onboard varies by the ship and cruise so I'm pretty sure that you'd need to wait until onboard to find out. I've seen full photo packages for sale for example on Epic (newer ship than Pearl with different kind of photo system thanon older ships) but with a quick google search about packages on Pearl I found conflicting information.

As was mentioned, NCL has no true formal nights. If you want to dress up just do so whenever you want, that's the beauty of freestyle cruising:)

In regards to photo packages, I'm not sure if they're the same on every sailing or not. On our Feb 8th, nine day GEM cruise they offered two different ones. Any 10 pictures for $129 or any 20 for $199. If you paid an extra $20 they would put your package photos on a USB drive with a phot release letter.

Actually, there are nights that are announced as "Dress up or Not" nights. On a 7 day cruise there are usually two nights like this, so I guess on a 5 day there might be one.

On these nights, you're free to dress up or not, as you choose. Usually it's about an even mix of people who do and do not. NCL brings out all the ship's photogs on these nights, setup all around the atrium deck. This gives people the opportunity to get a nice portrait made.

If by "formal restaurants" you mean the restaurants that have a surcharge (Cagneys, Le Bistro, La Cucina, Teppanyaki & Asian Bistro) they all have different menus, but the menu is the same every night.

The dining rooms both have serve the same menus. One side is standard and doesn't change, the other side are the "daily" specials. One dining room is smaller and more intimate, the other larger.

Can't help you with the photo packages...never buy them!

The Pearl is our favorite ship in the NCL fleet...hope it will be yours too!

No there aren't. This has been replaced by "Norwegian Night Out" which, as discussed on a couple of other threads, makes no mention of dress at all.

Maybe every ship is different, but I was on the POA in December. I am looking at the Freestyle Daily from Day 3 and it says, "Time to get fancy....tonight is Norwegian's Night Out!" That is on the front page. Looking further into the Daily it talks about slipping on your favorite outfit and getting your picture taken with the Captain in the atrium.

It is certainly different by ship (or even sailing from what we know). This is the fourth different wording we have come up with in the last couple of days, and the first to mention dressing up.

But then they seem to back off from dressing up by going from "fancy" to "favorite outfit!"

My DH and I make our own formal nights. We pick 2 nights on the sailing, usually sea days and I will wear a cocktail dress. Yes, we do sometimes get funny looks but it is fun to standout a bit. We start out with a drink, dinner and then either a show or the casino.

Exactly how it should be in my opinion. I always thought the Dress Up or Not night went against the freestyle concept. Why not just leave it up to people to decide for themselves which night to dress up.

Oops. Sorry, Got the name wrong. Regardless of the name, there are still nights on which people "somehow" end up dressing up if they want to, and the photogs are out in force on those nights, not on others.
