Hi Remember us from the Gem. Ed and I just got off the Splendor about 2 weeks ago. We enjoyed our cruise. Do go and give Carnival a try. We went with an open minded and were not disappointed. As far as the dinning rooms Carnival has two dress up nights. Food in dinning room was good. But I didn't care for the buffets at night. Lunch time they have a Burrito bar, pizza, sandwiches made to order, Mongolian grill, grill for burgers and hot dogs, Indian food and upstairs a place that served chicken. They also had a buffet.I did prefer the buffet on the Gem. Casino was large but lots of older slot machines. Great brunches on sea days. Any other questions ask. Hope to cruise with you guys again.

Hi Ed and Lynn! The Taj Mahal is giving me a free cruise (not comped) just port charges etc for a balcony on Carnival. Im thinking of going but the cruise I want to take is 8 nights and Imj not sure till Saturday how many days they are giving me. I figured for 500-600 bucks a cruise on ANY ship is a good deal!

Would love to cruise with you again, that was one of my top cruises! -I will be booking the Gem 1/3/15-1/12/15 in a few weeks to get the 9 month out perks. Are you going on the Gem again in January? We are also booked for the 6/28-7/5/14 Gem to Bahamas and Florida.

Great to talk to you again! the people on this Carnival board are VERY helpful.

Thinking of booking the Gem again. Have been looking at the end of Nov or beginning of Jan. Just not sure as we will be retiring and moving. What are the other perks of booking 9 months out I know you get double points, but anything else?

Hi again! Im going to book the 1/3/2015 Gem cruise. Last year if I recall correctly, it was 2 dinners for 2 with wine and a bottle in the cabin and chocolate covered strawberries I think! Between that perk, my Platinum perks and the Casino comping us we ate at a specialty every night but 1 and came home with 3 bottles of wine we didnt have at dinner!

I pulled the trigger and booked the 5/12/14 Carnival cruise on Splendor. Bill has to go to a convention that week and I hate being alone for that long so when The Taj Mahal gave us a free Carnival cruise I figured why not! Im going with a gal friend of mine thats turning 65 and has never cruised. (Im treating her for her birthday) I got a balcony cabin for under 400 TOTAL in taxes and fees:D:D:D

Now I am obsessed with the Carnival board!

Let me know if you book the January 3rd cruise!:)

Barbara You should have a great time. Carnival is different then NCL but have always had a fun time on our Carnival cruises. The Splendor only has one specialty restaurant. Food in the main dinning room is fine. Enjoy your cruise with you friend, what a nice way to celebrate her 65

Does anyone know if the balcony cabins on Splendor have hairdryers?

Had a hairdryer in our ocean view. I am sure they would be in balcony cabins. Hairdryers are located in top drawer of desk. Not in the bathrooms.

Thanks Lynn! I booked the January 3, 2015 cruise and there was no 9 month promotion. The pcc from casino at sea said to watch if it comes back. I only got $50 OBC because even though I upgraded to a suite I only get what the free room would get. I find that very strange:rolleyes:

Hi,

I would say that Carnival and NCL are pretty much the same with just a few differences. I've always enjoyed both of them.

I hope you like the color "Pink"! LOL! There's a lot of that color in the décor of the Splendor. I sailed her two years ago April 8th. It's hard for me to remember a lot of that cruise because my youngest brother had passed away the Tuesday before our Sunday cruise on her. I did have a nice time in spite of being extremely sad as I sailed with the DH, DS and his girlfriend. When we sailed on the Splendor it was out of Long Beach going to Cabo and Puerto Vallarta. I do remember liking Carnival's excursions in those ports very much. I'm not sure where she sails out of now, I'll have to look it up.

I'm also one who has never had a bad cruise. From what I've read on this thread you sound like someone that will have a good attitude and will have a great time. I sure hope so!:D
