What side of the ship

I want to be on the side of the ship that pull along the pier. I want to be able to see land. What side should I be on.

Several factors will influence which side faces land from one week to another.

I am on the Carnival Triumph, April 7 from Galveston. Going to Cozumel and Progresso. I am on the Veranda deck forward (staterooms above and below).

Well, in Progreso it won't matter. You dock at a 4 mile long pier, faaaaaaar from land. There's nothing to see. Literally.

 

In Cozumel, we've docked both port side and starboard side, nothing you can plan for in advance. You will find out when you get there.

In progress the Triumph backed in when we were on it but you are about 4-5 miles out from the mainland. In Coz we have done both.

We have docked both directions in Progreso and Cozumel. I guess just flip a coin..One person ,apparently a dummy, said always choose port side cabins, as that is the side that faces port..:eek:

I usually stay on the port side and usually, but not always, that is the land side as well as usually being the side the harbor pilots board and depart the ship.

There is no set way for the ship to dock and it can change up until the last minute. On one of our cruises a year ago the Captain said we were going to dock on the starboard side and we ended up docking on the port side.

I have stuck with port side each time I've had a balcony and have been pretty lucky. I usually had a view of the pier and if not, always a good view of the scenery.

Just don't book one side and get upset when you dock facing the sea.

I have cruised a back to back cruise and returned to Cozumel both times same room , which happened to be port side , one week we faced the pier and one week we didn't. The port authority tells the captain the day of.

Flip a coin and that will give you the same results. It will vary and there is no way to know until you get there. Even in Miami we have left facing one way and came back facing the other.

On every cruise we've been on, you can always see the island from our balconies even if you aren't pier side. The only island that I can think of that we didn't was Grand Cayman where we were anchored out to sea. If it's a tender island, you may not be able to see the island from one side of the ship.

 

And in some cases, even if your cabin faces the pier, there may be another mega ship parked on the other side of the pier blocking your view of the island.
