UBP during Spring Break

Recommended Posts

All winter I have been ignoring the drink packages threads because we were cruising during spring break. But it is on the Spirit so now I have to choose! What a tough decision.

Interesting, that was certainly not the case last year. Difficult decision for our forthcoming cruise. On the plus side if we opt for the package we can try multiple drinks such as cocktails, Martinis etc without any thought about the cost, however we will lose out on Martini tasting, beer tastings etc. doubt if we will profit from the UBP but we may well opt for it as we will know the total cost for drinks before we board.

Just boarded Spirit today and have purchased UBP. They said that as in Europe HO have allowed them to sell it!

Would you be good enough to advise the total amount you were charged for the package. I know it is $49 plus 15% per night, just wondered if they hit you with any additional charges, for example tax given that you were departing from Barcelona.

I assume you are asking because on some cruises from Barcelona you get charged the 10% all through the cruise.

This won't happen on this one because of the stop in Casablanca, which means the cruise goes out of the EU.

Generally, and this is not specific to Barcelona, it seems there is always a chance you will be charged tax if you purchase whilst still in port. From what I read on here this seems fairly random. From the original message, I assume he bought it before leaving, so it will be interesting to hear whether the tax was charged, but i wouldn't take the answer as set in stone.

Very inconsistent policy from NCL. We were on the 20th Feb - 1st March spirit sailing and had the UBP. We observed people who joined the ship at Malaga on the 27th being denied the UBP due to the Spring break policy.

We prepurchased the UBP on the Spirit from Barcelona. We spoke to some people who purchased it on board. Neither couple paid the Spanish tax.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, appreciated.

I am aware of the vagaries of Spanish tax on cruises and also that in theory it should not be applied given that you/we will spend part of the cruise out of EU waters, pleased to hear that this was the case for your fellow passengers. That said I would not be at all surprised to find that they have reversed the decision to allow the package come our cruise:mad: most especially given that the UK website still states that it is not available during Spring break.

Hope you are enjoying your cruise.
