Butler Service

We've had butlers on RSSC three times. They are very nice and very courteous, but not worth the extra cost. They take care of your room service, stocking your fridge, making reservations for you, waiting parties in your stateroom, bringing afternoon canapes, taking care of cleaning, etc. All of those things are well handled by normal room staff on RSSC ships. So, unless you want the snob appeal, don't bother. On Navigator the staterooms are mostly all the same(356 sq ft), so we go on deck 6 forward to mid ships. On Mariner we get a Cat C penthouse(deck 9 forward), which is very large(476 sq ft), but with no butler. On Voyager we go with a standard suite(356 sq ft); usually on deck 8 mid ships. On PG we went for a Cat B because we wanted a balcony. Used to get a deck 9 balcony on Diamond.

I got back 2 weeks ago from the Voyager. We were upgraded to a Penthouse B suite with butler service. We enjoyed our butler. One thing dougburns didn't mention was the free pressing service the first day of the cruise (as you are unpacking). You can get one outfit each pressed that day. An outfit consists of one dress or one shirt and one pair of pants or a combination.

We didn't feel it had any snob appeal to have the butler service. I felt it was one extra that Radisson offers.

We think that RSSC's butlers are great, but some people disagree. There have been 2 recent threads that discussed this topic in detail: 1) MaryEllenHaley's "The Butler" started on May 1 and 2)Ryansmemom's "Services provided by Butler" started on June 17.

You know we just go for the cabin we want, if it has a Butler, great, if it doesn't, thats fine too. We decide on a given cruise what we need/want from our cabin and thats what we book, well.....within a reasonable cost of course. We had a category B on Mariner with a Butler, he was fine, but it was his first cruise and we sort of "trained him", not really, but sort of, he got better as the cruise went on. On Navigator, we had a standard cabin with no Butler and didn't notice one bit of difference in our overall service. On our upcoming Voyager cruise, we have a category B, only because for some reason I think I like the room layout better - it has a Butler, but that isn't why we booked it. On our Alaska for next year on Mariner, we are in a standard deck 7 suite because that is where the party is!!:D :D
