HI,

I am cruising in May on the Dawn from Boston. A few questions I hope someone can help with.

What is the difference between a family balcony room and a balcony room?

Has anyone stayed in room 8352 or in that area?

What is an enclosed balcony?

Will I be able to spoke on this balcony?

Appreciate any help.

With some things Iäm not sure, but:

- To my understanding family cabins on older ships always sleep 4 (regular cabins in the same overall category can sleep also 3) and usually are located close to points of interests and/or elevators.

- There is no room 8352 on Dawn - there must be a typo, maybe 8152 or 8652? Both those rooms are located above Spinnaker Lounge that is the night club on the ship and there can be noise from below until wee hours.

- Enclosed balcony means that the balcony is not completely open but has a steel frame with a big hole with rounded corners - in other words the balcony is inside of the hull of the ship. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but some people do not like it. Here is an example image of an enclosed balcony from inside the cabin (found with Google Image Search):

Can't understand the last question, sorry.

Yes you can smoke on the balcony.

The 8th deck balconies with frames are my favorite! Less wind and totally protected from rain if it should occur.

The difference between family and reg balcony is the location. You would think near kids activities or pool area, but on the Dawn, they are close to nothing! Family ocean views are actually right below the casino! I once asked what made this a family room and they said because its one floor above where you get on and off the ship at ports, making it easier for families ?????????? I took the GTY balcony and ended up on 8. LOVED it. Much better than my deck 9 balcony the year before.

I had absolutely no problems hearing the Spinnaker Lounge audience either. I never heard anything. I love this ship! Not to big, not to small, great staff and entertainment and 3 beautiful FULL days in Bermuda can not be beat!

I know you posted this awhile back but I have just started to do a little research on Dawn and am interested in your opinion. You state that the deck 8 balcony cabin you had was "much better than my deck 9 balcony the year before." Would you please explain what the differences were, and why the deck 8 balcony was so much better, and what were the negatives of the deck 9 one? I would love to know the cabin numbers, too.

Thanks!
