Architectural Tours in Stockholm, Helsinki & Copenhagen

Recommended Posts

Hello, my husband and I are fans of mid-century architecture. Does anyone know of a tour company that offers tours that focus on the post-WWII designers an architects in Stockholm, Helsinki or Copenhagen?

We are sailing the end of May/first week of June on the Celebrity Eclipse.

We only have 1 day in each port. There are just 2 of us.

Thanks!

I don't know but the post ww2 architecture in Stockholm is doubtfully anything to see.

Lots of fantastic buildings were torn down in the 1950 and 1960's and replaces with mostly generic ugly boxes.

Swedish film maker Anders Wahlgren have made several very good documentaries about it.

I can't help you with Copenhagen or Helsinki.

That would be a very niche market, I can't imagine any such organised tours being available in the cities you mention. What you could do would be to research on the internet and make a list of the buildings you would like to see, then contact a local tour company and see if they would personalise a tour for you, but it's not going to be cheap. Alternatively, you could ask a taxi driver to take you to these places.

Stockholm wouldn't be that hard to do a "do it yourself" tour.

The areas most affected is the area around Klara kyrka (which is next door to the central station), the area around Sergelstorg, the area around Hötorget and Hamngatan

From Hötorget either walk along Sveavägen until you reach Odenagatan,

where you should walk left onto Odengatan until you reach Upplandsgatan.

or go with the subway to Odenplan T-bana.

From there walk along Upplandsgatan which after a while will change name to Vasagatan.
