Oasis Of The Seas Expert Posted March 20, 2014 #26 Share Posted March 20, 2014 Perfect! I think this is great. I love the different activities they have planned... Hopefully enough teens will sign up... Thank you so much! Jazz I would be amazed if there are not enough teens. You should be safe there.

cdscooby1 Posted March 20, 2014 #29 Share Posted March 20, 2014 Last Easter break we were on the Oasis with my just 12 year old twin boys. They basically bunched all the teens together in the teen club with no supervision. They could come and go as they wanted and the activities were available but not one person encouraging them to join in. My two were miserable. We asked to have them put into Adventure Ocean which they did. The kids were younger in age the first 2 nights but suddenly 5 other 12 -13 year olds joined them and they had a fun time. The Adventure Ocean crew explained that the ship was just busting with kids and they were understaffed for the teen club. I prefer that I know where my 12 year olds are, not that they are free to roam on a ship alone.

I prefer that I know where my 12 year olds are, not that they are free to roam on a ship alone. You just articulated my concerns. We had a similar situation on Carnival Cruise lines last year with our travelling companions' sons. The activities were not supervised. There was usually only 1 "camp counselor" in the designated area and I felt that the kids were just wandering around the ship in small groups. But these boys were very independent and didn't require much supervision... I am the more "protective" and anxious type and no supervision would not be ok with me, especially since my DH will have just turned 12.... I guess we will check it out and see. Im glad we will have the option of placing him in the 9-11 age group. Thanks for your comments :)
elainemasey Posted March 21, 2014 #31 Share Posted March 21, 2014 For those of you traveling with shy kids. We joined our sailings discussions group. In talking to others traveling with kids we decided on our own meeting in a lounge just after the life boat drill. This gave the kids a chance to meet and hopefully a familiar face when they got to the kids club. Also, make sure they go the 1st night. There will be many kids on their own and forming their new shipboard friends. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

Oasis Of The Seas Expert Posted March 21, 2014 #33 Share Posted March 21, 2014 For the Eastern route, the times exact times are different because the ship is in port on different days, leaves earlier, etc. All the same activities will still be present though. akcruz Posted March 21, 2014 #34 Share Posted March 21, 2014 A couple of comments here - For anyone who has kids in the 12+ range, and especially those that have more shy kids, make sure they go to the teen meet and greet the first night. This is often when the groups will be made for the rest of the week. My DD was more shy but always found kids on that first night that were similar to her. DS on the other hand is more outgoing but still it helped him to be there on that night. What will normally happen with this age group is that they use the teen center as a meeting place. So, that group that formed the first night sets up a time for the next day/night, meet up and go find something to do., Sometimes its in the teen club, sometimes it is elsewhere. If they haven't made those connections that first night, they may not find someone the next night. With this group it is very important to set up rules. We insist on meeting the kids our kids are hanging out with. This way if we see them around the ship we know what kind of things they are doing. We make sure we know their general plans and do check up on them. My son did turn 12 on one of our cruises and I had to sign a waiver for him to be in the 12+ group as officially he was not old enough yet. They did have at least one person in the teen center whenever I was there, but have not sailed on big busy weeks so not sure if it is different then. Don't worry about your kids they will figure it out. Mine love cruising and even though they have both aged out of the teen clubs still enjoy it. Even though my daughter is now on her own she still wants to go with us and is disappointed if we go without her.
