I've heard Nassau is a little rough, so I would personally book through the cruise line. They're more likely to have a better reputation, and there's a paper trail where you went.

Nassau is like Cozumel, where it is a stop on almost every ship, so they have a constant stream of 2-6 ships every day of the year.

 

The tourist wheels roll smoothly there.

 

Definitely one of the best stops to do an independent tour.

 

I've done a walking tour on two of my stops there. (google Frommer's walking tour) 90% of the attractions are within a few blocks of the pier area.

 

I would suggest googling images of:

The Queen's Staircase

Fort Fincastle (directly at the top of the Queen's Staircase)

Govenor's Mansion (big pink mansion you can see from the ship)

Graycliff Hotel (excellent restaurant and cigar factory on site also)

British Colonial Hilton (big hotel to the right, with a small beach)

 

Just whatever you do, do not do like the 95% of people who say that Nassau "has nothing to do" and actually walk farther than one block into town, to Bay Street where all the shops are and is always overcrowded, from the clueless who only wander that far.(then sheepishly returm to the ship)

 

Also look at dolphin/sea lion/beach excursions to Blue Lagoon

Day passes at the resorts at Cable beach to the north of town

Arawak Cay Fish Fry

Atlantis resort if you want to experience the fake Vegas/Disney Bahamas.

 

Just a few ideas of things we have done on our various stops to Nassau.

It would take me 20 trips to even hit everything intresting I've found in my research.

 

Get out and have a great day exploring all Nassau has to offer.
