peety3 Posted March 19, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2014 You should really say what you're looking for. You should also explain why you're insistent on choosing private excursions over what the ship offers, to help enlighten us on your selection criteria. Gimer Posted March 19, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 19, 2014 In Skagway, if you are doing the White Pass Train ride, be sure you are on the left side, going forward. View galore. The right side, is the side of the mountain, very little view. In Juneau, we did Harv & Marv's Whale watch. They have metal flat boats with twin 250. Powerful engines get you to whales lickety split. Fun ride.
Gimer Posted March 19, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 19, 2014 In Ketchikan, you can do the Lumberjack Show or Salmon Bake. We did our own excursion to "Totem Bright State Park". Took the north bound Blue Bus across the street from Berth 3/Visitor's Center. Seniors cost $.50 one way ($1.00 regular fare). It took 25 minutes to get there. The Park is FREE, housing 14 totem poles and a Clan Lodge House. It was a 20 to 30 minutes walk to see the whole park. Just 50 feet away is a private "Potlatch Totem Park", also Free. It had totem poles, Tribal House, Carving Center, Antique Cars and a Firearms museum, displaying a Gattling Gun. Best value for your money, cost $1.00. The Blue Bus runs hourly. Good Luck.
