Luggage question

We are booked on American from New York to South America for a Infinity cruise on 1/8/06. We will have a lay over in Miami for appx 12 hours. My question is do I check my bags all the way through to South America or claim them in Miami and then re check them in.

You'll have to claim you luggage. Due to new regulations, any layover greater than, I believe it's 3 hours, has to claim their luggage and go through check in again. It's it wonderful?
