Waterland District in Amsterdam

We will be in Amsterdam for 2 days (overnight on a ship) in early June. Having been to the city several times, we are looking for something a little different one day. I am thinking about taking the bus from the train station up to the Waterland District. I found some good directions that has stops in Broek in Waterland, Marken, then ferry to Volendam, then bus back to the station. Has anyone visited this district or done this route that might have some tips or suggestions on what to see?
