Falmouth -things to see/do

We are planning on being in Falmouth the end of April of this year. We are not into snorkling, but like the beach, and checking out the area.

If you have been to Falmouth within the past year, what would you suggest that we see/do that is NOT expensive, either by doing a tour, or taking a Taxi, or walking?

We were in Falmouth within the past year, it is a very historic old town, locked in time until the cruise terminal was built. There is much old architecture to see just walking, if you are not intimidated to walk on your own. You will be approached by locals who will ask to walk with you and tell you the history for a tip. You can see the original court house from the ship, it is just a short walk, and it is still in use today, and a very old church a few blocks further. The people are very poor and some can be aggressive, and there are many unarmed police walking around. Most people we spoke with were very polite. The craft selling area just outside the gate is all hustle and bustle, but we always felt safe. The famous runner Husain Bolt came from this town, and the kids at the school run races barefoot. There is a walking tour map of historic sites somewhere in this forum. I hope to find it and use it next time we visit Falmouth.

we just got back last week. we took the trolley tour from inside the gates, $22 per person, about 1 hr. drove around the town etc. with narrative & history. After the tour we walked outside the gates for souvineers you can bargain everything and get great prices.

Always felt safe, never harassed, never offered drugs, lots of police around. Every local was polite and excepted no politely. they will be asking you if you want to check out there booth , take tour etc, just say no and keep walking if not interested. So glad we went outside the gates to experience the real Jamaica.

After that we went back on ship for lunch, then spent the afternoon in the pool at Margarittavile. It was not busy or crowded. it was a nice day.

Tweety33, thank you for giving me a little info on Falmouth.

If we did not do the trolley tour ($22 for an hour),do they have Taxi's or natives that would take a person around? I'm thinking a Taxi, might be cheaper than the trolley tour. Yes, I know you got a lot of info on the tour, but we really just want to sight-see the area.
