Premium Drink Package questions answered

Hi there,

We are going on our first cruise in June (FOTS Western) and are looking at purchasing the ultimate drinks package for both of us.

Does anyone know what cider is included? My husband is a big cider drinker and this would be his drink of choice but he would happily drink beer too.

Do people think the package is worth the money? Neither of us will drink wine at dinner. I am worried for myself as not a very big drinker but I plan on drinking a few cocktails throughout the day and a couple of Baileys in the evening after dinner. My husband will drink his money's worth I'm sure.

Thanks everyone

The cider is Strongbow and just to let you know, the difference between the premium @ 55 and the ultimate @ 65 is fresh squeezed juice, bottled sparkling water and all of the fancy coffees.

They very rarely had the Strongbow on the explorer cruise. I think they had it 1-2 days out of 9

Can all cocktails be changed to non alcoholic and purchased on $20 replenishment package.
Many can, but not all. Some drinks are 100% alcohol, like a Manhattan or a Martini. The replenish does include non alcoholic beers like O'Douls and Buckler.

For some peole it was not hard at all. My DH did well even after Mexico when we came back at 5pm and stayed up until 11. For me, it was not 'to get money's worht' but more peace of mind with costs already paid upfront and for the easiness.

People are different. Just dont purchase it, if you feel it's not right for you. Nobody has to do explain their choises in life.

It does not appear to be a great deal. Hard to get your money's worth on days you are in port.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned here yet is that the drink packages DO WORK on the private islands (ie. Labadee)... So for my upcoming Western on Oasis, there are really only 2 "port days" where it won't work, and those are partial days. I'm still excited for the Premium package!

I do think on a cruise where it is mostly port days (Mediterranean, etc) it probably wouldn't be cost effective.

This has been debated many times on these boards. If you have 6 drinks @ 8.00 per drink after adding in the 15% tip, you're at the break even point. Even on a port day, how hard is it to have 2 drinks before dinner, 2 with dinner and 2 after dinner? You still have 8 hours of potential drinking time. The only time I would say it's not a great deal is if you're on a port intensive European cruise where you're off ship for 12 hours during the day, instead of a Caribbean sailing where your port time is maybe 8 hours per day.

You're right! I had 2-3 at lunch, 2-3 at dinner and 2-3 while at the casino!! Throw in a couple waters and it was a great deal for me even on the port days.

Great points. I have received several emails encouraging me to buy a package. Are they the same price whether you pre-purchase or during check in?

Same price! Go for it! It's worth it and you can try drinks you've never tried before and don't have to worry if you like it or not. I tried a martini last cruise and loved it. First one ever. Didn't really care for the high class looking glass but the drink was good lol

LoL. I think we will buy just one ultimate package and compare the savings (or losses) after the cruise. Just tried to purchase online, but too late. Said to inquire on the ship.

I drink a lot of water too. Will they give me an adult beverage and a bottled water in the same transaction? If not, how long do I have to wait to return for additional item(s)?

Thanx!

One drink at a time including water. What I did was go from bar to bar to get a drink and I didn't have any problems even with a drink in my hand.

Quick question..read thru all the thread to ensure it had not already been asked and answered.

On the RCL website FAQ, the venues at which the premium...or,presumably, other packages..would be honored are MDR, Windjammer, and all bars and lounges. What about specialty restaurants such as Chops, GT, Sabor, etc.? Has anyone successfully used the package to get a glass of wine at Chops or a beer at Sabor? Conversely, has anyone with the package been denied at a specialty restaurant?

Interestingly, on the RCL FAQ site, one set of Q&A states that all pax in the same stateroom must order the package (old rule); a few questions down, the answer is No, they don't. Nothing as consistent as RCL's inconsistency! :D

And that's why I've asked. Thanks in advance,

VR,
