HI there,

We just stayed here for our RCI cruise a few weeks ago and it was great, could see the port from the room. We loved the free breakfast and evening reception (free alcoholic drinks and munchies). The staff were very friendly and we found the hotel to be close to everything. The RCI terminal is down the street so we walked there no problem, but the Carnival terminal is further down so you should probably take a cab. The concierge told us (and I read on these boards somewhere) that the cab charges a flat rate of $7.00 per person to go to the cruise pier. It is really quite close - we just could not justify paying that, so hubby walked it and yes, you can do it for Royal. I would suggest going for a walk down to the Carnival pier and see if you would be comfortable walking with luggage. Just a suggestion.

We ended up taking a 90 minute bus tour (hop on, hop off, but we did not get off). This was wonderful to get a sense of the history and a lay of the land. After we got off the bus, we walked and found ourselves on Bourbon Street. We had lunch, bought some stuff, and walked back to the hotel, so it can be done. Wear comfy shoes and you can walk anywhere. :)

By June 2015 the hotel renovations will be complete; we got a renovated room and it was great. There are some negative reviews on Trip Advisor about the un-renovated rooms at present.
