nowitall Posted March 23, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2014 A barge collision has closed the Galveston Ship Channel. Does anyone know if this will delay the arrival/sailing of the Carnival Magic tomorrow?
Shmoo here Posted March 23, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2014 A barge collision has closed the Galveston Ship Channel. Does anyone know if this will delay the arrival/sailing of the Carnival Magic tomorrow? Possibly. I'd be calling Carnival and finding out what they know. MichelleChell Posted March 23, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 23, 2014 I doubt it as it is further down the channel. There is already another thread about it.

winddawn Posted March 23, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 23, 2014 (edited) A barge collision has closed the Galveston Ship Channel. Does anyone know if this will delay the arrival/sailing of the Carnival Magic tomorrow? I read this online regarding Saturday sailings, so it sounds like it has the potential to affect today's: "The closing of the ship channel also delayed shipping traffic in and out of the Port of Galveston including the sailing of the Princess Cruise and Carnival ships, which were scheduled to leave Galveston on Saturday, Popoff said." http://www.galvestondailynews.com/free/article_6340123e-b1fc-11e3-987d-0017a43b2370.html Edited March 23, 2014 by winddawn

prattmom Posted March 23, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 23, 2014 Marine traffic dot com currently shows Carnival Magic and many other ships are stopped outside of Galveston Bay. Marine traffic doesn't, however, show the crazy fog that's also out there. It's a mess either way... goose30 Posted March 23, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 23, 2014 I understand one of the ships spilled some oil. I hope the cruise ships don't get any oil on them. Then they may have to get cleaned before continuing on.;)

!!SAM!! Posted March 23, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 23, 2014 On the ship now, we are being told after the fog lifts the Coast Guard has to inspect the wreckage before we come in. Thanks for the update. Please keep us updated if possible. The news in Houston is saying the channel is closed until further notice. The ferry isn't running either. The Coast Guard said they are working to get the cruise ships in.
BeautifulPlumage Posted March 23, 2014 #13 Share Posted March 23, 2014 What a mess. My friend is on the Caribbean Princess, which was supposed to sail yesterday. It's her first cruise. Hopefully, since the spill is in the channel, the quick response will minimize environmental impact. Then, get those ships moving!
