Food:

 

We visited Teppaniki on day one and we were not impressed. We go to Hibachi restaurants all the time and the food and presentation was not good. The chef used almost a dozen eggs for the fried rice, the rice was to salty, and when he was chopping food flew everywhere including my water. Again, if this was my first time I would say never again but we have been to different Hibachi restaurants and the chefs were very neat and precise. Anyway, it didn't spoil our trip. The buffet was good, I had the lobster tails and shrimp skewers on the second night. Its good to know whats going on so you can plan your dinners and entertainment around the themed nights. The flamingo cafe on deck 15 I think was unbelieveable. They cook for quality not quantity so the food is more seasoned. O'Sheehans was in a great location, and I had the wings, fish and chips and chicken tenders. I tried the chicken fry on the chicken fry night and it was not good. But late night, O'Sheehans will be your best friend, trust me! Savor and Taste were ok. But, the buffet at lunch had better food.

 

I have a question....you said that it was a good idea to know about the themed nights so you can plan accordingly. Can you find out about them ahead of time? Also, what exactly are the themed nights? Thanks!

Which in my opinion, is better for us seafood lovers to be able to indulge without feeling overly imbarrased at the fancy smancy main dining rooms.

It sounds great! My husband would definitely love all that! Did you find out when they were having those special nights before you were on the ship? Just wondering how we should plan specialty dinners, etc.

Someone posted the dailies the week before our trip, I reviewed them and reserved the specialty restaurants, illusionarium and show times based on the dailies I saw. I figured it wouldn't change to much.

Not to mention, it seemed like everyone in line had a floor seat pass in hand. So my last tip for the Getaway is to get in line really early even if you buy premium seats.

Thanks for that tip! To be honest, I'll probably do the opposite. I'll probably get the premium seats, and then wait until the huge crowd has been seated before I show up - like 15 minutes early or something. Just enough time that they don't give away my seat. Ha!

How was it/ I have a 16 year old daughter and am hoping she is going to have a good time and make friends.

My husband wants to bring his leatherman...pocket knife wit all the gidget gadgets on it. Can he bring that on the ship?

 

When you go on excursions like snorkling....is your stuff safe on the boat. I am trying to figure out what to do with my money, credit card, etc. How do you keep things from being stolen, etc.

 

Also, do most of you bring cash or travelers checks to pay for things off ship.

 

Are the mini fridges full of stuff when you get your room and if you use it, you have to pay for it. If you don't want it, do you just ask for it to be removed? I am planning to bring a couple of cases of bottled water.

 

Does the Getaway allow the over the door shoe hangers? I heard they can damage or scratch up the doors and then you could get charged for it?

 

Does it get real windy or cold in the evenings where you need to wear a jacket alot? Do you bring a windbreaker in case of rain?

 

Is it good to type up something with what is on each deck so you know where to go? Do they provide something at the beginning so you can figure it out?

I would leave it behind. He will not need it. I know how leatherman junkies can be but trust me it will be just something else to worry about getting lost. Leave it at home.

We have NEVER had even a slight issue leaving stuff in our room. I put valuabel under some clothes in one of the drawers but thats just to keep tings out of sight. You should not have problems.

I bring cash, but it is a matter of personal choice. Ther is an ATM on the ship, the fees are a tad on the high side.

Yes it is stocked. You can asked for it to be emptied. Many people do that even if they do not plan to use it especially if kids are there. They may not realize it is not free.

I've never seen anyone use one. I am not sure why anyone would need one on a week long cruise. How many pair of shoes do you want to bring anyway? :) There is sufficient room for you clothing. I do believe that you would be required to pay for any damages of any sort.

Weather an be almost anything on any cruise. We ech bring a light jacket/hoodie on almost all cruises.

You mean the snorkeling boat? I wouldn't bring any valuables other than what you immediately need. We've never had a problem. Check your belongings as soon as you climb back on the boat. If anything is missing, the perp hasn't gotten far! It's really not something to worry about, but I wouldn't bring an entire wallet, just in case. Use a reputable company. They will keep you and your belongings safe. This is their livelihood, and they can't afford bad feedback getting out there.

For the over the door shoe organizer. Leave it at home you will have a hard time finding a place to hang it.

 

I too used one on our first cruise as a way to keep tract of our stuff lotions, sunscreen, cards....small stuff Had to hang it in the closet because it was the only place it would work. It did not work as I had planned

 

You will be amazed at how many little places they find for storage. Drawers under the couch in the Ottoman lots of places to store stuff.

 

My biggest recommendation is a small pop up hamper for dirty clothing. A great place for everyone to put their dirty clothing. We store ours in the closet and its all out of the way. At the end of the cruise I put the whole thing in a suitcase to go home straight to the laundry room. Well I dump the dirty clothing in a case 1/2 way thru since my family fills it multible times a week.

I brought my over the door shoe organizer and didn't use it on the Getaway. They have 2 shelves on the mirror and shelves below in the bathroom. They also have storage under the sink. So you can hide your grooming bag.

 

Just bring two hefty cinch scented bags for your dirty clothes, and you will be fine, or whatever type of kitchen trash bag you use.

 

The casino on the getaway is open and spread out. It circles the stairway on deck 6. It's actually really nice. The smoke was not as bad as I thought it would be. As a matter of fact, from reading the boards, I bought the disposable surgical masks to wear and never took it out of the pack. But, we were winning, so funny how smoke doesn't seem like a problem when you have extra money......:D

We used to bring one for " gasp" shoes!! when the kids were younger and had flip flops, sneakers, dress shoes etc that would lost under the couch or beds.

Now it is wasted space in the case.
