triptolemus Posted October 24, 2014 #27 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Curious, what types of things do you all think they would do in just 3-weeks on dry dock? The Jewel was in dry dock for only two weeks and she got new azipods. There will be painting, surface work below the water line, mechanical maintenance, deck repairs... could be carpets... new/refirb dining venues... (is Star getting O'Sheehans?)... lot's can be done in three weeks, 24 hour schedules in three weeks are an amazing thing. Some recent pics and comments from the Jewel dry dock can be found here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2037254&page=3 Here's a pic of Jewel's rear end getting the azipod work done... Linda the Book Lover Posted October 24, 2014 #29 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Thanks for the Jewel photos and thread which really added to the excitement of sailing on a newly spruced up Star. We sailed on the Majesty before and after her stretch and she was even more beautiful to us.
Kaboochi Posted January 15, 2015 #30 Share Posted January 15, 2015 According to the NEXT information http://www.ncl.com/next?cid=SM_NCL_GLO_NA_FBK_BKN_NA_NEXT_XXXXXXX_XXXXXXX, the Star dry dock is "coming 2015". But looking at her schedule for 2015, I don't see any "holes". Any guesses? Is this specific to the Star?
Linda the Book Lover Posted January 15, 2015 #31 Share Posted January 15, 2015 Is this specific to the Star? I think it is for all of the ships scheduled for dry dock. check this thread out if you have not already http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2146627&page=
Rede411 Posted January 15, 2015 #32 Share Posted January 15, 2015 Kaboochi, I've noticed the same thing! ...from what I hear Star will be dry docked March 4 - March 14, 2015. Internal renovations are updated carpets, paint & addition of the Irish eatery (no charge) as well as adding a Mojito Bar etc. & updated menus for public dining. They are adding digital touch screen signs along with better wifi to keep up with technology. I Personally hope they update the Spinikar Lounge which looks a bit dated. I so wished the "Star" had that Bliss Ultra Lounge like they do on "Gem"....One can hope!

Like it says on that page telling about NEXT improvements, Star has had new menus already since last summer, no changes regarding menus coming up during the dry dock. Demonyte Posted January 15, 2015 #35 Share Posted January 15, 2015 I was referring to "O'Sheehan's" which I think is free dining :) No, I had highlighted the relevant part in the quote: "updated menus for public dining". The mistake is understandable as updated MDR menus were one of the biggest changes in NEXT program but as said, it was already rolled out almost fleetwide last summer. O'Sheehan's menu is the same as it's been before - even after Blue Lagoon on Star is updated to O'Sheehan's.
Rede411 Posted January 15, 2015 #36 Share Posted January 15, 2015 Demonyte, Thanks for clarifying, you seem to know a lot about the renovations. I'm sure "Linda The Book Lover" will give us a review once she returns from the 3/17 cruise ~E

calex Posted January 15, 2015 #39 Share Posted January 15, 2015 I just looked at the website and the Star has no available bookings from March 8th will the 17th. The Norwegian Star will be in dry dock in Portland, Oregon at Vigor Industries in March 2015. Assuming it takes two days to get to Portland from Los Angeles (989 nautical miles), the Star should be in Portland between March 3rd and March 15th. See Vigor's press release at: http://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cr...northwest.html See the complete thread at: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=45165142&postcount=
Coasty Posted January 29, 2015 #40 Share Posted January 29, 2015 The repair of the Norwegian Star will include work on the ship’s propulsion and steering system, bow thruster, fin stabilizer, lifeboats and davit as well as tank cleaning and water blasting and painting of the hull. The project will cost several million dollars and will employ approximately 750 workers per day. http://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/cruise-search-history-news.html
