Have a few quick questions about feh island. First, when I arrive to St. John via ferry from st thomas are there shops in walking distance? We would then like to explore a few of the beautiful looking bays. St. John offers. Do you think we should just rent a car for the day or are all the bays within walkin distance of each other? For example we want to check out all bays from hawk nest to francis bay and everything I. Between

There's a shopping center right at the dock called Wharfside Village. Lots of nice shops selling things that are hard to find elsewhere.

You can't walk to any beach but Honeymoon from the dock. To see the other beaches you would have to hire a taxi for a tour and tell the driver you want to see as many beaches as possible in 2 hours, which is the amount of time allocated for a basic tour.

It can be hard to impossible to rent a car for one day on St John, but you may be able to rent on St Thomas, and then take the car barge over to St John. Parking is very limited so you might not be able to park and shop.

If you come over on the ferry, Wharfside, as Ms411 said, will be right where you get off. If you take an excursion you will likely be dropped off very close to Mongoose Junction, another popular shopping/eating center. You can walk from Wharfside to Mongoose in less than five minutes.

There are a ton of taxis right there on the waterfront in Cruz Bay. A lot of them will be going down the north shore road past Caneel and all of their beaches, then Hawksnest, Gibney/Oppenheimer, Jumbie, Trunk, and Cinnamon.

Some may continue on to Maho, and perhaps to the Annaberg ruins above Leinster Bay. I doubt that many of them go to Francis as it's a small parking lot and not a great view from the road.

Seemoney ~ you've already gotten great info here. If you really want to see all the bays from Hawksnest to Francis, you are either going to need to chat with a taxi driver near the ferry dock and negotiate with them to take you to all of them (pretty expensive unless you have a group because you'd be paying for a safari taxi); or rent a jeep. Single day rentals are tough to do now. If you wanted to do that, Augie may have some suggestions of who still has day rentals available. It's also more likely to be easier to get a single day rental in the summer.

ENJOY!
