Yes, you hand your ship card over to the dealer and they will debit how much you request from your onboard account, which eventually gets put on your credit card at the end of the cruise when you pay your bill.

 

We tend to take cash for the casino, but lots of other people use the ship card method.

There is now a charge ( I believe 3 % ), as too many passengers in the past did exactly as you are proposing (some to the tune of 10s of thousands of dollars).

But it is processed as a purchase.
