10:45 am Flight from FLL after 8 am GA arrival at POM

Here's the deal:

 

Trying to use my Delta Skymiles Companion Certificate for B1 G1 free. The only flight I can get from FLL is a 10:45 flight. Can we make it from POM to FLL in time to catch that flight? We are in the Haven on Getaway so I am wondering if they would be able to escort us off earlier than other passengers so we can get through customs quickly and be on our way.

 

Is this a feasible plan at all or am I cutting it waaayyy to close?

You are at the mercy of Customs and Immigration at POM. If you are delayed, they are the ones calling the shots.

 

You may make it if everything goes right, but I believe you should have a back-up plan just in case.

I guess you like to gamble because you are surely doing so here. A 1045am departure from FLL can even be a big risk arriving at Port Everglades just 3 miles away.

 

Have you ever heard about the TSA lines at FLL airport on Saturdays and Sundays?

Since you are in a suite, you will get VIP disembarkation. That is after all the walk-offs (with all their own luggage) go. Depends on how many are in that group and how many are working in customs as to how long it will take you to disembark. Then the other variable is the transportation you're using to get from Miami to FLL. Lots of variables. Could you just fly out of MIA instead?

If this is your only choice, make sure you're standing at the departure doors with all your luggage (don't leave it out the night before) by 7:30am, if not earlier. I would arrange to have transportation waiting for me for the trip, or play to sink about $70 on a cab ride before tip.

 

If the ship arrives on time, the ship gets cleared on time, you get through customs without issue, your ride is not delayed, and you don't hit traffic, you can be at FLL by 8:45. This gives you an hour or more to get through security, which can be long on Saturdays

 

I wouldn't do it, generally because I'd rather not add stress and worry to a vacation where I'm trying to reduce stress and worry, but if it's your only choice, that's what you'll need to do.

Very tight. I'd be worried all week. If you don't make your connection as others have said do have a good backup plan. Would be a shame to lose that cruise glow and have a miserable time getting home.

MIA is out cause the Skymiles award won't let me book there... Says nit available. We may have to stay over Saturday night cause 1045 was the latest flight they had. If I pay for MIA for 3 tickets it's about $1500 vs $600 the other way out of FLL.

When scheduling a flight don't look at what time it takes off. Look at what time you are supposed to be at the AP. Generally that is 1.5 - 2 hours before the flight.

 

So for a 10:45 flight, ideally you should be there at 9:15. I don't remember how long it takes to get from POM to FLL AP. What happens if there is traffic? Still think you can make it?

I booked a hotel overnight Sat and am going out Sunday. I didn't want to chance the 10:45 out of Miami, never mind FLL! I also didn't want to wait all day with luggage for the next flight at 9pm. Ill simply go to hotel after cruise and get the 10:45 the next morning....stress free! I booked the Embassy Suites, free shuttle to the airport, free breakfast and free cocktail hours 5pm - 7pm! Nice pool area and spacious rooms for families. :)

You know you will be thinking of the flight with so little of time to make it on your 2nd night out. Why torment yourself?

Almost impossible to make a 10:30 flight out of FLL. We have had flights that left a little after noon and still just made it. Airport is very busy and depending on traffic can take quite awhile to get to the airport from POM. Good luck.
