davenew Posted April 10, 2014 #303 Share Posted April 10, 2014 [/url] Then I thought, let's have some fun and be a little creative.. not exactly what I had in mind, but interesting none the less.. Great photos all round. What camera/zoom are you using, especially for the zoom photos :)
davenew Posted April 10, 2014 #304 Share Posted April 10, 2014 NICE GIFT!! I hope these were better than the ones they gave us.............long, thick black hair embedded in the chocolate. Not amused
DEIx15x8 Posted April 10, 2014 #305 Share Posted April 10, 2014 This is the first I've heard of the custom deserts, although I haven't really been looking or reading many Oasis/Allure reviews except this one. How exactly does it work? Do you say what you like and he makes something or do you pick the ingredients that are laid out and he puts them together? Can't wait to see what else you have to share. Looking to do the All Access Tour for the first time on Quantum this fall so that is especially of interest to me.
caneguy Posted April 10, 2014 Author #306 Share Posted April 10, 2014 Thank you for doing an upgrade. It was very nice after a busy day at work to come here and see some more great pictures! You are a good bloke Thanks for the great plane pictures! My husband wants to go there! Thanks goodycruising, Glad you are enjoying the review. You husband wants to come over to this side of the world and I want to go over to your side! My son just left Cairns, Australia after diving the Great Barrier reef for 3 days. He spent time in Sydney and before that spent 3 months in NZ working as a lifeguard. He loved Australia!! He is on the tour Europe before coming back to the US to start Grad school in Boston. caneguy Posted April 10, 2014 Author #307 Share Posted April 10, 2014 Continue to love your review and the photos. Did you use filters on your lens in St. Maarten? No filters. The plane pictures were taken last year with a Nikon D60, the other pictures were taken this year with a Nikon D7100. Plane pictures were jpeg and I did a little work with IPhoto. The others were taken in RAW and I used Lightroom to finish the picture. Thanks for reading the review and for posting that you are following. caneguy Posted April 10, 2014 Author #308 Share Posted April 10, 2014 What a delightful review. Thanks for posting it. :D Thanks so much for posting that you are following. It makes doing a review so worth it when you know people are enjoying the review and learning some things that will help them when they cruise. Thank you for your entertaining review and wonderful photos! We did a b2b on Oasis two years ago (with a b2b on Allure the year before) in a JS for all those trips. I didn't think I'd be able to go back to a regular balcony, but we have, and it's actually been okay. Ask me again after Easter to see if I've changed my mind after our regular cabin on Indy.;) Thank you also for the information on using the perks from the TA. We have those same ones (except only one specialty restaurant). I was expecting to get paper certs like we got for our Explorer cruise, but when I asked for this time, I was told they'd put the specials on our account. I already know I want the reflexology from the spa! Thanks to giving me that info about going back to a "regular" ocean balcony. I thought the upgrade was another way of Royal getting an increase in revenue so I will have to always book at least a Jr. Suite for our cruises. Yes the perks worked out just fine. We had the same thing on our previous cruise and it also worked out fine. I wish I knew that they would split the time doing 25 min of reflexology and 25 min of massage, that is what I would have done! ENJOY YOUR CRUISE! bigharley Posted April 10, 2014 #309 Share Posted April 10, 2014 Love the review and great pictures. I just bought a new DSLR camera for my November 1st Oasis cruise. The wife and I will be celebrating our 30th anniversary on this cruise. I hope that I can get enought practice in to take at least some decent pictures. caneguy Posted April 10, 2014 Author #310 Share Posted April 10, 2014 Your daily recap is fun to read. Thanks for sharing. I think your pictures are great, and I know that you are just posting the pictures of your friends daughters out of pride for your friends. I get that. Great job! It looks like you had a wonderful time (and sounds like it). Thanks so much for your comments. We are so close the the girls and the parents. Thanks for the review. Getting into the mood for same cruise on Allure in June. Each to their own, but personally I can't understand why anyone wants to visit a beach where planes fly over so low. Not one on my bucket list that's for sure :-) Hi Deeliteful, Thanks for reading and enjoying the review. Oh I agree with you about sitting on a beach with planes flying over your head, not relaxing at all. BUT it was fun to sit and watch them while enjoying Adult Beverages and have some good food! Great photos all round. What camera/zoom are you using, especially for the zoom photos :) Thanks for the props. I am using a Nikon D7100 with an 18-200 zoom. For the zoom shot I used a ND filter to get a slower shutter speed and keep the exposure correct. This was the first time I tried something like that. Hi Bigharley, Enjoy the camera, which one did you get? I learned a lot from youtube about using the camera and using a photo software called Lightroom which really brings out all the detail in the pictures. You should always shoot in RAW format and use a program like Lightroom to "finish" the pictures. You will be amazed on how great they look. I just stated using Lightroom about 6 months ago. You select whatever you want off the "dessert buffet" and he puts something together for you. The "Chef" has a few standard items, but can alter anything for you. I am going to try and get day 6, All ACCESS TOUR up tonight
Rare Deeliteful Posted April 10, 2014 #316 Share Posted April 10, 2014 Hi Deeliteful - I'm sailing on the same Allure cruise as you. Can't wait. Just upgraded to a Crown Loft Suite, 1st time in any Suite. Actually got comped a JS from the casino (long story) a year ago and when the prices went down this week, I was able to do an even swap. Take care, Knuckles Excellent! Have you joined our roll call?
MMOMOM Posted April 10, 2014 #317 Share Posted April 10, 2014 day one cont. Real tub and shower So now I understand RCCI reason for giving me this upgrade. A new way to increase revenue on future bookings! Boy this is going to cost me! After seeing this, I guess now I have to always book this type of cabin, it is so nice! We had originally book an ocean balcony. I don't ever want to get an upgrade to the Aqua Theater Suite :) So we unpacked and then walked around and waited for the Muster drill, you know, seven short blasts followed by one long blast (insert your favorite fart joke here and laugh, I always laugh at fart jokes having that 11 year old humor). LOL!!! I hear you! They got us in the very beginning. We did our 1st Royal Caribbean cruise (last minute sale) on the Adventure of the Seas .... all they had was a JS ... can't book anything else now! Yes, we fell in love ..... :)

Thanks for reading the review and for posting that you are following. I guess I will need to learn to use Lightroom. I'd been using PhotoShop CS3 for years and years and recently downloaded PhotoShop CC and Lightroom because they had a good deal on the monthly subscription but haven't used them yet (not exactly getting my money's worth). My last cruise was the first one where I shot RAW photos, and used the manual setting for the vast majority of my photos. It's a huge learning curve, but I'm pretty happy with how my Allure photos turned out. I still have a lot to learn though. Sometimes I miss using a little point & shoot :p

A bit of learning but once you do, organizing and touching up photos is a snap.

I took a class at our local jr. college and it was great, and cheap, very hands on. Sometimes you get lucky with the pictures. I usually shoot sunsets slightly underexposd and then bring out the colors with Lightroom.
