what to do out of messina?

we have been to pompeii, to taormina, to mt etna, naples and capri is too far away...

 

has anyone gone anywhere else from the port of messina or is messina so interesting that just staying there is plenty?

We are also looking for something else to see as well, as we have been to all of the same places as you. I believe that Messina is only a port area, and there is really nothing to see there.

We went to Taormina and Mt. Etna, but we spoke to a few couples who stayed in Messina and were sorry they did they said that ther was nothing in the town and it was run down and gritty.

On our Med cruise in 2004 we went to Messina. It actually turned out to be one of my favorite days. There is a small Regional Museum that is good to see and the Astronomical clock tower which goes off at 12 noon is a great thing to see. When we were there we walked up the clock tower and came back down just in time to see the clock go off. Trip advisor has a nice list of things to do in Messina. We spent the afternoon in Taormina but I wish we could have saw more things in Messina. I also really liked that the boat is literally docked right next to the road.

yes it sounds like we will stay in messina, unless we can come up with a village or two that we can go to....we have done the villages of mt etna...and done mt etna.....

 

has anyone done anything different from this port?
