rudicruiser Posted April 14, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2014 We are planning to spend some time at the beach in Cane Garden Bay. Like the idea of the restaurants and amenities there. Has anyone been snorkeling at this beach? Does it have a place where equipment can be rented? Thanks!
blue_water Posted April 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) There is a rental spot that may have snorkel gear not sure, and you may find some snorkeling at the far left end of the bay but it's not known for its snorkeling. But I'm not an expert on snorkeling and I'd post this question on TTOL where you're more apt to get help. traveltalkonline.com Edited April 15, 2014 by blue_water
Rare skittl1321 Posted May 5, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 5, 2014 It's been a few years, but when we went to Cane Garden Bay, the water was not clear, and the waves were rougher than our other stops. It wasn't a snorkel spot for us. We enjoyed snorkeling in Antigua and St. Thomas on that cruise.
OCruisers Posted May 5, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 5, 2014 Cane Garden Bay Beach is pretty but not known as a place to snorkel. Brewer's Bay Beach does have very decent snorkeling. Better yet, take a sailing catamaran out to snorkel. :) LuLu

It wasn't a snorkel spot for us. We enjoyed snorkeling in Antigua and St. Thomas on that cruise. Snorkeling STT is pretty good at Sapphire and Secret Harbor, on Antigua we enjoy the beaches and swimming. On Tortola CGB is not a snorkel beach, someone sent you to the wrong beach. Next visit to Tortola you'll want to go to Brewers Bay or better yet Smuggler's Cove for off the beach snorkeling.
kevincodner Posted May 8, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 8, 2014 No snorkeling, but a nice beach for chillin'. There is a neat little rum distillery across the street. Kind of a run down place, but tasty rum. Callwood Distillery.
blue_water Posted May 8, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 8, 2014 No snorkeling, but a nice beach for chillin'. There is a neat little rum distillery across the street. Kind of a run down place, but tasty rum. Callwood Distillery. Yes CGB is a very popular beach with cruisers because of the many beach bars, water rentals, and generally calm water, gets quite busy with ships in port. In the evening it's happy hour central with several excellent musicians like the Elmtones and Quito Rymer. For snorkeling you want Brewers Bay, Smuggler's Cove, or better yet the Norman Island Caves and Indians with a lunch at Pirates Bight. Several daysails to choose from. The distillery is the oldest continuously operating in the Caribbean so "rustic" or "historic" may be a more apt description. https://sites.google.com/site/vicanerum/home But yes, great rum with a unique flavor!
