Travlin Again Posted April 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) Hi, All, We are Priscilla and Danny and we're sailing on the Insignia on September 6th. We're trying to figure out how to get from the ship in Southampton to London on the 20th of September. We'll be heading back to the USA on the 21st. Does anyone know of any good excursions? We sailed on the Regatta in September, 2013...New England to Canada and in 2011 we sailed the Regatta from Anchorage to Vancouver. Looking forward to meeting all of you! turnip eater Posted April 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2014 (edited) Good morning You need to pose this question on UK cruising section, where someone, usually John Bull , will be able to give you a detailed answer. You won't see much of London in a one day stay......do you have to go there or would you perhaps prefer to stay somewhere nearer to the airport? Are you flying out from London Heathrow airport (LHR)? Travlin Again Posted April 17, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted April 17, 2014 When I get off the cruise ship I would like to take a sightseeing tour and be dropped off at a hotel near the airport.

Hmmmm...John Bull is your man on UK cruising or on Ports of call. You may be interested in Winchester, the old capitol of England....or perhaps a trip Ono the New Forest. Both of which are the county of Hampshire, as is Southampton. http://www.cityofwinchester.co.uk/ Do you know which terminal you are flying from at Heathrow?.....which airline are yo flying with? By the way....there is a Roll Call for this cruise.:) Edited April 17, 2014 by turnip eater Adding city of Winchester info.

We are on the Sept 6 cruise too. We are looking into touring Stonehenge, Windsor and Salisbury with a drop off at our hotel in London. It's a bus tour. bigindy Posted April 18, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 18, 2014 HI! We are working with http://www.discoverthesouth.co.uk/ and they have many options for your return after the cruise. This limo and tour company, based in Southampton, seem to be very flexible and responsive to your inquiries and needs.

Rare John Bull Posted May 18, 2014 #11 Share Posted May 18, 2014 (edited) For a private transfer, Discover the South (a branch of West Quay Cars) as another poster, or less frills but also reliable & oft-recommended on Cruise Critic, http://www.smithsforairports.com Expect to pay £80+ for a simple transfer to Heathrow, £100+ for a simple transfer to central London. For most ship arrivals in Southampton, International Friends operate a tour-transfer coach from ship to Salisbury, Stonehenge & Windsor, then on to hotels in Heathrow & central London for £65 per person. (this is a respected & reliable independent coach operator, not the cruise line's transfer coaches) That's the price through the London Toolkit website, which for whatever reason is slightly cheaper than via their own website  http://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/southampton_to_london_shared_bus.html (nb check the other pages on that website for good logistics info on Southampton, Heathrow & central London) Because Insignia is a little lady with only about 700 passengers, they may not provide a tour-transfer bus for her. But Independence of the Seas (around 4000 passengers) arrives same-day so you could take a taxi to her dock, about 10 mins / £7 away. Don't worry too much about the different quoted arrival times, but you'd probably need early unassisted disembarkation. http://www.southamptonvts.co.uk/Live_Information/Shipping_Movements_and_Cruise_Ship_Schedule/Cruise_Ship_Schedule/ Cheapest way (£12 - £18 per person) from Southampton to Heathrow or central London is the scheduled coach service of http://www.nationalexpress.com/ There are only a few coaches per day on this route, you do need to pre-book. Book from Southampton coach station - not "cruise terminal", which doesn't apply to your ship. JB :) Edited May 18, 2014 by John Bull

But it's a sunday So no worries. :) A 7.30 pick-up should get you there by 9am, giving you up to 2 hours leeway for problems. But don't think about re-booking for later to get a little more time in the land of nod, better to have that peace of mind. Happy landings JB :) Edited May 22, 2014 by John Bull
