Motleu Posted May 8, 2014 Author #251 Share Posted May 8, 2014 I read that there is a free ferry at Labadee. Do you know where this is and what beach it takes you to? From what I was told you pick it up at the pier and it goes straight to Columbus Cove. Cols Cove is prob a 15 min walk and prob 5 min on the tram but you sometimes need to wait for the tram. The ferry runs for an extremely limited time like an hour or so. By the time we got off the ship it had ceased running.
Motleu Posted May 8, 2014 Author #252 Share Posted May 8, 2014 I booked our first Royal cruise a few weeks ago (we usually cruise DCL) so I'm just starting to research our Jun 2015 cruise. I've read many trip reports that have menus and Compasses in them but I haven't seen any with all the extras. Like the teen/kid Compass and the shore excursions. I really appreciate you putting everything in your report. Nice to have it all in one spot. Thanks! I love the all inclusive reviews as well. I have the complete shore excursion guide for this cruise and didn't plan on posting it but will scan it in if people want to see it. Let me know! melk71 Posted May 9, 2014 #254 Share Posted May 9, 2014 Great review! I really appreciate all the informational papers you are posting, very helpful to us in the planning stages! About how large is Labadee? It looks bigger than I thought on the map you posted. Just wondering how close things actually are, for instance if I want to stay at the beach while the kids (they are teenagers, not little ones) go ride the coaster. Should I stick to a beach close to that or is everything a pretty close walk? Thanks!
beshears Posted May 9, 2014 #255 Share Posted May 9, 2014 We seen it last week, but didn't know it was free, so we took the tram to Columbus Cove, and walked a couple minutes, but it wasn't bad at all.

I cant answer your exact question because we went to Columbus Cove and just stayed there. I am sure other can spell out the distance a little better. Motleu Posted May 12, 2014 Author #266 Share Posted May 12, 2014 We received an invite to the top tier event. Note to self! Dress up for the top tier event. I showed up in shorts and a tshirt and they said sorry - cant come in - must change. They were actually very nice about it. Sure enough I missed the note about the proper attire on the invite. So I went and did a quick change. They had some kind of punch, wine and champagne and 2 hor's douerve buffet lines on either side of Pharoh's lounge. Captain Tor Olsen and Hotel Director Rodney Darwin (interesting guy with an amazing work history) hosted and did a little comedy routine (a little strange at times!) and also answered questions. They talked about the new dining setup on Quantum - they called it "dynamic dining". There was a question from someone from Europe asking why RC keeps building ships too big for many European ports. Captain Olsen stated that RC has decided to be a large ship line. They realize the Voyager, Freedom, Oasis and Quantum class ships cant venture into those ports and he referred people to Pullmantur Lines for those type ships. Very Interesting. It was a nice overall event lasting about an hour or so.

Badgertr Posted May 13, 2014 #273 Share Posted May 13, 2014 Thank you!! I couldn't stop "reading" it. Now, I do have to get back to work ;). We haven't cruised in a few years and now we have booked this ship for next March, really can't wait now. When I was looking for cruises I posted about the comparison between Voyager and Freedom size. Your pics with Freedom next to Navigator really helped me see not a huge difference. Great job! We went on the Voyager in 2012 and they are similar. Freedom has a vintages and a dedicated sorrentos amongst other things. The promenade is a little wider and the pool deck has the H2o zone. You'll love the Freedom!
