Free Casino Cruise Certificate questions

Hi all! My mom has received a certificate from one of the local casinos for a free cruise for two. The only restrictions I see on it are that it is nontransferable and is good for an interior room on a 4-8 day sailing. Other restrictions are only for the deadline date for booking.

Has anyone used one of these before? Can she do ANY interior room, like possibly the spa rooms? If I book a room/cruise that is eligible for the triple play promotion, would she actually get the OBC? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!

Typically it is for a certain category of interior room. It's not the lowest, but I doubt it's the highest either. You can certainly upgrade, but I'm not sure about applying another promotion....I seem to recall that wasn't allowed. We always upgrade, so I don't know which exact category we were given from the onset.

We've used these a couple of times...in fact DH and I are doing a B2B in October using one each. We are sailing on the Fantasy, so we only upgraded from interior to ocean view. If memory serves, the upgrade fee has not been based on any other promos available, but rather the standard price difference.

It has been my experience that she MUST book thru their travel agent. The cabin will be a guarantee interior. She will not be able to combine with any other promotion. She will be offered the ability to pay to upgrade, and she will receive a 1099 for tax purposes and will be required to claim this as earned income.

I got one of those a few weeks ago and for shoots and giggles I called about it. I needed to come to a local office for a "presentation" about cruising (which I doubt) and they wouldn't tell what cruise line. Mine was "vaguely" linked to a casino. In fact everything about it was vague.....RED FLAG

I wouldn't trust these type promotions unless they definitely come from a specific cruise line.

Thanks for all the info so far!

The cruise is specifically Carnival, and the certificate has a code number and mom's name printed on it. Mom received the postcard from the casino, then we had to call and "accept" the cruise. They gave us an appointment at the casino to pick up our stuff and I immediately expected some type of sales pitch when we got there. Instead, we checked in with the host and he pulled mom's packet of stuff including her cruise certificate and handed that to her along with a Carnival book that listed all the upcoming cruises available and maps of each of the Carnival ships.

One final statement on the certificate says to call Carnival or your TA to book the cruise!
