jkw2765 Posted April 18, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2014 We are a party of 5 staying for one night in Sydney prior to a cruise in November. Triple rooms are limited already. The choices are Park Royal, The Westin or Swissotel. Any input is appreciated! Thanks!:)
MrsWaldo Posted April 18, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 18, 2014 The Westin would be my pick. Have you considered serviced apartments such as those in the Meriton group?
jkw2765 Posted April 18, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted April 18, 2014 I am not familiar with what service apartments are so didn't consider them. Would you recommend any one in particular, keeping in mind we would like to be close to the port? Thanks for the information!
cassamanda Posted April 19, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 19, 2014 Serviced apartments are like hotel condo's or suite accommodation from studio to 3 bedrooms and would be a good choice for longer stays or families. Anything in central Sydney is close to the port. Sydney cruise terminal at the overseas passenger terminal (OPT) is in the main tourist area at Circular Quay. For smaller ships they do berth at a new terminal at White Bay which is not close to anything unfortunately. Hugh

5waldos Posted June 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted June 27, 2014 (edited) We did a serviced hotel for 5of us in wooloomaloo (sp?) and it was wonderful. Too long ago to have contact numbers but vast amounts of space, great views of the harbor, and within walking distance of the opera house. We have done the same in Paris and Rome-we are definite fans. As far as hotels-have you considered BLUE- I believe they have triple rooms and it looks to be a very interesting hotel a short walk from the botanic gardens. maryann ns Posted June 28, 2014 #7 Share Posted June 28, 2014 (edited) If you want a spectacular location, and want to save your money for better things, check out the Sydney Harbour YHA - The Rocks. We were just two and had a private room with a view of the Opera House, Circular Quay and the Harbour Bridge. You could likely book a dorm room for your group. http://www.yha.com.au/hostels/nsw/sydney-surrounds/sydney-harbour/ They have rooms for 6, family rooms with four and five beds. We fortunately got a great deal through our travel agent for the Four Seasons with its super location. Being "handy" is so vital in Sydney as there are some many super options in that area. Being closer to the central docking and harbor area saves times, is more fun and interesting, etc. As noted in the live/blog below, we got off of the Solstice in February from doing a Sydney, 14-day adventure. Check out these postings for more info/background on these ports in both countries, this nice ship, its entertainment, food options, etc. THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio Back from doing a 14-day Celebrity Solstice, Jan. 20-Feb. 3, 2014, Sydney to Auckland adventure on this ship and getting a big sampling for the wonders of "down under” before and after this cruise. You need to check which terminal your ship is departing from. I suspect it is from White Bay which is on the western side of Sydney as opposed to Circular Quay. The most direct and shortest taxi journey to the White Bay terminal would be from the Swissotel. Taxi is the only transport to White Bay. This hotel is also located in the centre of the down town area and has excellent access to central shopping and Darling Harbour. A ten minute flat walk down George street to The Rocks precinct at Circular Quay. Hugh
