DandyCandy Posted July 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2005 when going on day trips that involve a light hike or out in the rainforest what type of athletic sandals are best? then i was wondering would it be ok to go in open toed ones or should i get the covered toed hiking ones? i would just like to buy a good pair of hiking sandals that i can wear out on day trips. no i'm not a regular hiker or outdoorsy type person, so i have no idea what brands are best. I might just buy 2 pairs, a covered and not covered toe pair. i am at a toss up between these pairs: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/6675758/c/13568.html http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/1473153/c/31791.html http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/3349718/c/29513.html http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/1584982/c/30883.html http://www.famousfootwear.com/product.asp?product_id=1007381&variant_id=29675
Jane110 Posted July 31, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2005 When I go walking in the rainforests in Australia, I wear sneakers and socks. I think closed toe is important and socks help keep the little buggies from biting. Jane
teefleur Posted July 31, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 31, 2005 Don't know about rainforest hiking, but some good all round comfortable sandals that I like are Tevas... Zappo's has them too...
High C's Posted July 31, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 31, 2005 I notice that one of the pairs you are considering are Ecco's. I have never tried that exact shoe, but I can tell you that Ecco is one of the MOST comfortable shoes I have ever owned. Even their sandals have a comfortable "spring" in their sole that stops that achy leg feeling after a long day of touring around. For Europe next year, I plan on bringing two pairs - one open and one closed.
LilRhody Posted August 1, 2005 #5 Share Posted August 1, 2005 I used to splurge on Mephisto sandals until I discovered Ecco - they are about 1/3 the price and just as comfortable. I've toured the world in my Ecco sandals and always am as comfortable as can be. That being said, if you are doing any really rough hiking, I wouldn't recommend sandals - you need a closed toe and the ankle support that a good hiking shoe can give.
