Nice QUIET beach in Costa Maya?

I think we'll pass on the beach party scene when the ship docks at Costa Maya (RCCL Explorer, week before Christmas). We're looking for a nice beach with good snorkeling and facilities (bathroom, food). Anyone been to a small resort in the area welcomes cruisers? I found one - Mayan Palms - that charges a $25 "day pass" for use of beach, pool and restrooms. Anyone done it? Is the beach and snokeling good?

It's several miles from the port. In Mahahual, we did http://costamayacruiseexcursions.com/CostaMayaBeach.htm at Pez Quadro. Was quiet and serene the day we were there. Quite honestly, shore snorkeling in Costa Maya isn't that great, and I didn't want to swim out to the reef.
