Rare vlthom Posted April 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2014 Does Oceania ever have short-term, unpublished fare sales? We are currently aboard the Marina for a 31-day cruise. We have another cruise booked in July 2015. While aboard, we were told that there is an onboard booking discount that's available for all future cruise bookings. In the past, while aboard, we've requested that the onboard booking discount be applied to our future booking without any issue. Oceania always obliged without hesitation as long as there were still cabins available in our category. They typically came back to us within a day or so with the revised paperwork. This time, it has been about 10 days and we're told repeatedly that they are waiting for Miami to make a decision. In the meantime, if I go online, I see that the fares have been dropped and the categories are starting to sell-out, even though it was wide open when we made the request.. I contacted my travel agent who said that Oceania has a glitch in their fares online and they've also said that we must speak to the onboard specialist about the discount. Meanwhile....the categories seem to be selling out even though the fares are supposedly in error. Our category is still open, but probably not for much longer. JimandStan Posted April 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2014 I suppose that I must be confused- If there are still cabins available in your desired category, why aren't you just making a new reservation -including the discount- and cancelling your old one? Rare vlthom Posted April 27, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted April 27, 2014 We were told that we shouldn't do that and that it wouldn't be honored. Sent from my iPad using Forums
JimandStan Posted April 27, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2014 Unless you're one of that small group of manipulators (I refuse to call them passengers) who are on notice from the Cruise Line, I would chance it.... Oceania is trying to stop people who are playing the system to take multiple discounts on multiple cruises, not an individual traveler doing it once a year. That is the kind of repeat business that they WANT.
Rare vlthom Posted April 27, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted April 27, 2014 We are certainly not part of "the manipulators" and definitely play by the rules - which is why we didn't go ahead and make a second reservation at the lower fare, particularly after being told not to do so. Maybe we're foolish. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare vlthom Posted April 28, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted April 28, 2014 As an addendum, we received a letter in our stateroom explaining via a quote from the Oceania website that says that they are not obliged to adhere to the prices shown on the website. We did receive the onboard booking discount after our third visit to them as they had "forgotten" to request it (and even though they told us on the second visit that they were waiting for a decision from Miami). They have not however, credited our account with the promised OBC for our current cruise for placing another future booking. They have again " forgotten" and I'm forced to keep after them to follow through on their promises. I don't believe that it should work this way or require so much follow-up on my part while I'm supposed to be enjoying my cruise. It taints the experience.
