Alaskan cruises on Millennium

We have plans to book the Shanghai-Vancouver Trans Pacific repo on Millennium next April and originally thought we would stay on for a B2B 10 day Alaskan cruise. With the good value available for the Millennium north and southbound 7 day itineraries would it be worth spending the 10 days land travel based around Vancouver and then doing B2B 7 day cruises out of Vancouver. Same ports North and Southbound but as we are unlikely to be back here again from Australia will give us a much better option to see all that we want.
