Sure, you can use a basic strategy chart.

Also, some dealers will do their best to help.

On the NCL Jade, an eight deck CSM(Continuous Shuffle Machine) is used.

Thanks. I tried it with using my sheet and missed just 1. Was my fault. I forgot to split a pair of 8's....

Always splits 8's :)

I learned.

Once, I split eights and got another 8.

Dealer had a 6.

On an initial bet of 25 bucks, with splits and doubles,

ended up with a win of over $200.00

only 'cause me DW says go for it !

Have played about 10 games now and found out a few things:

 

1} Theory is one thing, winning the hand is another. Some holds or hits were misses on their part. If I would have played what I wanted, I would have won, but then again, I would have lost some too, but not as many.

 

2} Following the chart does not always means a win, only better odds of more wins over the LONG HAUL!!!!

Another tip: take a deck and turn over cards quickly counting them until you get to hard 17 or bust. Keep going thru the deck. Great practice so you count your hand and dealers quickly and be able to think about strategy and not counting.

I really don't like the continuous shufflers. It changes the odds considerably. I have only seen them on the cruise ships, never in the casinos like AC, Vegas, or Foxwoods.

After practicing then keeping track doing 5 games of 20 hands dealt, I lost

$65.

 

I think I will not be in the casino as much as I thought unless I find another method to ensure a better result then losing money.....LOL

If you can figure out a way to ensure you won't lose money in a casino, you can make a lot more money selling your secret than you can playing cards. They have to pay for the free drinks, dinners, shiny new machines, lights, staffing, comps, somehow. :D. There are some good ways to play comps using video poker, but the comps on ships aren't worth the losses...

Glad you found your way to one of the less contentious threads. I'm sure you'll soon figure out that not only are PCC's perfect but the casino's are the best in the world and give favorable odds to every table and every player. :p:rolleyes:

The odds only change for you if you are card counting, i.e. your odds are better with a single deck if you are counting and change your play accordingly. For those people not counting, the odds are the same with an 8 deck shoe and a one deck game.

 

Out of interest, does NCL have a policy on card counting? In Vegas, its legal, but casinos have the right to evict you/adjust how you stand/look etc.

Decide beforehand how much you want to win. Then when you reach your goal quit. Don't become a pig. Also decide how much your willing to lose and don't chase, try another day.

You can read up on the continuos shuffling machines if you like but they basically take out all of the benefits of positive and negative counts if one were card counting.

 

The bottom line is the deck is never rich in high cards or low cards meaning there is no clear cut advantage to the player or dealer other than the built in probability of dealing from an 8 deck machine that is always neutral. In other words the house always has the statistical advantage even if you played every hand perfectly by the book.

 

The cruse ships have effectivly turned blackjack into nothing more than a glorified roulette type of bet where the house always has the advantage.

 

Do yourself a favor and either play only at the high stakes tables (if you can afford it) where the cards are not constantly reshuffled or play for short periods of time hoping to be the player that truly wins on luck before the laws of probabilty kick in. The longer you play, the more the cruise line ensures that you will be a loser at the game of chance.

 

Hey, its always been true its a game of luck and the house has the advantage. If you must play, don't expect to win by playing every day

I did experiment on using the basis strategy sheet yesterday and found that method sucks for 8 decks. It was wrong more than right. Most pros swear by it, but I won more by ignoring a few of the standard rules. What good is following them when they lead you thru mud.. LOL

I know how you feel. However, Basic Strategy has been run on a computer millions of times.

Over the long run, if you follow the chart, you will lose less often. And, as said before, over the long run, the odds are still in favor of the house.

That being said, my wife and I find Blackjack to be (almost) a break-even game... we play the same amount for about an hour at a time.

The time to make money is on the splits and doubles.

Much better odds than playing the slots, especially on cruise ships.
