Newbury newbie Posted May 4, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2014 Quick question. Will the ATM's on the Eclipse, during the West Med cruise, give you US dollars or Euros? Or both?
MICruise14 Posted May 4, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 4, 2014 Quick question. Will the ATM's on the Eclipse, during the West Med cruise, give you US dollars or Euros? Or both? That's a good question. I was wondering the same thing for an Aug. Classic Med cruise on Equinox.
dst87 Posted May 4, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) The only ATM on board dispenses USD for use in the casino (which, annoyingly, is cash only). The ATM is not administered on-board, so any errors or card-swallowings you need to deal with a company in the US. That, and the exchange rate and withdrawal fees are criminal. You will be able to get Euros at Guest Relations, however, who carry currency for the itinerary. However, again, you'll be getting ripped off with 3% exchange fees, plus whatever terrible rate they come up with on the day. EDIT: I've just realised that you're sailing on Saturday (with me!) so the following won't be any use to you unless you already have the cards. Sorry! Useful for future though? OP, as you're in the UK, you'd be MUCH better with a royalty free card. I use Nationwide FlexPlus debit card for cash withdrawals and the Nationwide Select credit card for purchases. This gives unbeatable rates for everything. Most people are reluctant to change bank accounts for this though, which is understandable. At the very least, get a Halifax Clarity credit card. This will give you perfect exchange rate on purchases with no fees at all. Cash withdrawals are also free, but as it's a credit card interest is charged on a daily basis so there is a small amount of interest payable. Just try to use the CC for spending mostly. If you do want to use the casino, take US Dollars with you before you leave the UK, using something like the TravelMoneyMax tool from Martin Lewis to get the best rate. It won't be as good as the Clarity card, but using that isn't an option for the casino. I've spent quite a long time researching the most cost effective ways to spend abroad, so if you'd like further explanation or extra information, just ask. Rare cruisestitch Posted May 4, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 4, 2014 Sometimes there are two ATM on board and I've seen both give dollars and also one give Dollars and the other, Euros. Expect a fairly hefty fee per transaction.
