Purchasing upgrades @ pier?

DCL does this, but not at the substantial savings that other lines do. Also, since most DCL Ships do sail mainly full, the amount of upgrades are VERY slim to none. You usually have to be one of the first ones at the port to even have the chance of getting one, and they open the port around 10:30AM. We just sailed DCL 7/9/05 and there were no upgrades to be had. We've also sailed on off peak times in November and again both times there were no upgrades to be had. I wouldn't go in hoping that there will be upgrades for purchase, because if you do, you'll most likely end up with disappointment. Most people who've sailed DCL Will say, book the category you'll be happy with, and if there are upgrades available, think of it as a bonus.

We have upgraded once at the pier and it cost about $800 for an upgrade from a category 10 to a category 4. This was not too bad in my opinion but it very rarely happens since DCL does sail pretty full usually. We did get to the port at 10:30 and had to check in first before we could upgrade.
