Which excursion would you recommend?

My husband and I are looking at two of the Paris excursions offered by RCI on our upcoming cruise. The first is 'Paris on your own' and the second is a coach tour of the city's sights, a riverboat down the Seine, an hours stop for lunch, and a photo stop at the Eiffel Tower.

We have been to Paris before and love the city and are happy to mill around by ourselves, but then the Seine boat trip sounds lovely but would we want to be on a coach for several hours?

Has anyone done either of these trips and what would you recommend? Thank you in advance.

Since you've already been to Paris and since you're understandably reluctant to spend hours and hours on the bus, why not consider an excursion in Normandy instead. Rouen? D-Day beaches, etc? Giverny? The first and last are easily reached by train and the sights you'd want to visit are well situated near the train station. Rouen is closer to your port of call but both are on the main line to Paris.

If you're heart is still set on heading to Paris, I'd enthusiastically vote for Paris on your own between the two choices you've mentioned. If the Seine boat trip appeals, you can do that independently through one of Viator's Seine River Cruise with Snack or Aperitif or the cruise your parents -- and possibly grandparents -- took: the Bateau Mouche Seine river cruise. Bateaux Parisienes or Vendettes Pont de Neuf are other boat tour providers who do a nice job.

If you are set on Paris, I definitely would chose Paris on your own. Who wants to spend the day riding around the city in all that traffic on a tour bus? That is not the way to visit Paris.

Leave the day open to do your own thing, which may well be affected by the weather that day.

We did "Paris on Your Own" which worked out quite well for us because we had been to Paris before on a land trip. :)

Hi LuLu - If you have done this excursion recently, can you confirm where you were let off the bus - whether it was near the Eiffel Tower or Place Concorde?

Hesitate to answer because it was six years ago. We were let off at Place Concorde. Probably hasn't changed because it was very convenient to get to lots of places from there.

Hopefully, someone who has been more recently will confirm.

If you have been to Paris before, you should take the Paris on your Own option. Just hit your top 5 sites you want to see. I also think a D-Day tour would be a good secondary option if you have great interest. Otherwise, I think Paris is worth 2-3 visits before you begin to visit outside the city.

You could take the TGV train to Reims and visit Champagne houses, all by yourself. This travel podcast tells you how: http://joinusinfrance.com/13/

I've been to Reims many times it's very beautiful in that area. Our daughter lived in France for a long time so we are very familiar with France but not particularly Paris. But thanks for the suggestion.
