It does happen, yes. Carnival MAY contact you with an offer. OR, be your own upgrade fairy and call them and see how much an upgrade would cost. Depending on a lot of different factors - price drops, cancellations, etc. they may well offer you a sweetheart deal from say an OV to a Balcony.

 

This is exactly what I did for my upcoming cruise. I have gone from an OV to Balcony to Aft Extended Balcony + I got a $200 OBC in the process. My out of pocket upsell was a total of $130 for two people. And also keep in mind if you don't like the answer you get when you call. Call them back until you do. Different reps are better than others I have found. Again, I did the same for this cruise. :D

Well the upsell fairy just called I could get a grand suite for $800 more. Just to much right now.
