linaka625 Posted May 11, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 11, 2014 I'll be on Vision in a JS on June 23. Can you tell me which menus were offered, and which nights? Which night is formal night? Thank you!

masspector Posted May 11, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 11, 2014 I was on same cruise. Formal night is second night. The lobster grand mariner soufflé menu was the fourth night. It was a five night cruise. Not sure about the menu the other nights. Second night we ate at chops. Last night we ate at Izumi. Berl- what was your impression of the cruise? It was ok for us. We enjoyed our jewel cruise last year much more. Sent from my iPad using Forums

berylde Posted May 11, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted May 11, 2014 One formal night on a port day. Very relaxed dress code in MDR. We were at a table for 7--Very nice waiter and assistant but we were one of the last tables leaving every night. Food was good. Windjammer food pretty bad Maspector: I liked the smaller ship. But, it seemed like there were too many people for the size of the ship. For example: the pool on sea days was really crowded and hectic Don't remember seeing a pasta station
ksawyercruiser Posted May 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted May 12, 2014 How was embarkation? We had a nightmare experience with the Liberty in Fort Lauderdale. We are on the vision over Memorial Day. Thanks!! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
DAllenTCY Posted May 12, 2014 #9 Share Posted May 12, 2014 I'm just wondering what type of live band is poolside during the afternoons? I sailed on the Vision just a few weeks ago and it was Kool Vibes. I wonder if the genre has changed, or has it stayed the same? Thanks. Darkwolfe Posted May 12, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 12, 2014 I didn't even know that ship was still around... All of the Vision class ships are still in service with RCCL. As a guess, I'd say you're likely thinking of the Sovereign class ships which are all gone from the fleet save Majesty. Don't think smaller is bad though. Seems that the Vision ships get some of the more interesting and longer itineraries mixed with the shorty runs. We're on the 10 night Bermuda cruise in just a few weeks. JimAOk1945 Posted May 12, 2014 #12 Share Posted May 12, 2014 I'm glad I found your thread. We will be on the Vision of the Seas next year for a 12 day cruise in an OS. Although we have previously sailed in an OS, this will be our first time on the VOS. How was your bed? Comfortable or not? How was your bathroom? Did you have a separate shower stall as well as tub? How was the Concierge? Friendly? Helpful? How was the Concierge Lounge? Did it have windows? How were the shows? Do you plan to post pictures? I'll probably have more questions. Thanks in advance for your answers!
Darkwolfe Posted May 12, 2014 #13 Share Posted May 12, 2014 It's not really mentioned much... LoL.. This is true. Folks go gaga over new glitzy Oasis type things and forget that a ship does not have to be huge to be very enjoyable. Check over my pre-refit review for Vision from 2013 and you will start to see why I am going back on board in June.
soflacruiser Posted May 12, 2014 #14 Share Posted May 12, 2014 How was the Solarium pool? Crowded? Still a lot of kids around? Do they take off the crystal canopy so it doesn't feel like an indoor pool?
Darkwolfe Posted May 12, 2014 #15 Share Posted May 12, 2014 How was the Solarium pool? Crowded? Still a lot of kids around? Do they take off the crystal canopy so it doesn't feel like an indoor pool? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I have yet to see a Vision class ship open the Solarium roof and I don't think it can be opened either. Pretty sure that option only exists on the Radiance ships.
soflacruiser Posted May 12, 2014 #16 Share Posted May 12, 2014 Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I have yet to see a Vision class ship open the Solarium roof and I don't think it can be opened either. Pretty sure that option only exists on the Radiance ships. This was from the RCL site: Solarium The indoor/outdoor pool and lounge area can be covered during inclement weather by a huge glass roof. I also read it was retractable...no?
berylde Posted May 12, 2014 Author #17 Share Posted May 12, 2014 SOFLCRUISER: Hi Neighbor. Solarium pool was very nice but, all lounges taken early. I didn't see any children, so it was quiet. The canopy was closed. They also have tables with chairs Park Cafe was great for lunch but had strange hours. Served soup, salads and sandwiches, but only open at lunch time 2 days
berylde Posted May 12, 2014 Author #18 Share Posted May 12, 2014 JIMAOK1945: Comfortable bed Great bathroom. The seperate shower was a nice size with glass door. Tub with jacuzzi and a bidet. Two sinks. Had to request pool towels Lovely cabin. Two TV's and a DVD. One evening, we had 7 for pre dinner drinks. There were more than enough places to sit--not crowded. The concierge arranged everything--extra ice, tray of appetizers, etc. Nicely done The CL is on deck 11, which is Viking Crown lounge. It is small but the wall is all window. There were over 100 Diamond members on board (many + and pinnacle). The first evening, the CL full by 5PM. Overflow for CL and DL in Viking Crown and that was full by 5:15PM. Fortunately, everything calmed down after that. This was only their second cruise out of Port Everglades. I don't think they were prepared We went to the CL 3 evenings. While we were there, the Concierge gave friendly greeting but stayed behind the desk. We went to DL and the "Diamond Event" the other 2 nights The only complaint we had with the OS was the balcony. There were 3 of us in cabin. The balcony only had 2 lounges and 2 small tables. I requested (housekeeping, steward, concierge and desk) 2 straight back balcony chairs. Impossible! No extra chairs on ship They did send up to armless kitchen chairs
berylde Posted May 12, 2014 Author #19 Share Posted May 12, 2014 KSAWYERCRUISER: It was "fleet week", the day we sailed. We had gotten e-mails saying not to arrive til after 12 noon because of a Coast Guard inspection. We arrived at 12:30 and walked right on, sfter checking in. This was at Pier 25 and went very smoothly. We disenbarked at Pier 21. As a suite guest, we were given an early time to get off . Waited in Chops for the OK to disembark. Then we joined everyone else in the Centrum trying to exit thru one door. Very hectic On Freedom class ships, suite guests are escorted off ship by the Concierge (which is a great perk). Not so, on the Vision. When we left Chops, we were on our own
masspector Posted May 12, 2014 #20 Share Posted May 12, 2014 Maspector: I liked the smaller ship. But, it seemed like there were too many people for the size of the ship. For example: the pool on sea days was really crowded and hectic Funny, I thought the opposite. Seemed like ship was not full. We did not go to regular pool. We love the solarium and we always got two loungers the row behind the poolside row. We were there around 9am. Saw few kids in solarium but not many. They seemed to be passing through, they did not stay that I could tell. Surprisely I have a photo taken about 7:30 am with no chair hog towels out in the solarium.. Service was OK but crew not very proactive. To us, ship had a weird layout. Never did get my bearings, in five days. Windjammer is at front of ship, not the rear. Directionals at elevators were poorly placed. Only time it felt crowded was the aerial show in centrum. Most chairs taken about an hour before show. Did not go to any shows. They all sounded blah.
aquajon Posted May 12, 2014 #21 Share Posted May 12, 2014 Why was the food bad in windjammer? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MADflyer Posted May 12, 2014 #22 Share Posted May 12, 2014 I have sailed quite a lot this year. Sometimes I wonder if what we react to on one ship is actually happening fleet-wide. Windjammer had started having the same menu items that were in the main dining room on some ships and this was not the case on Vision. I walked through every evening on my B2B and they never had cold soups, upgraded menu items, but did have all the basics for salad prep, plenty of vegetables and basic meat dishes along with one Indian and Asian item each evening and one meat carving station at all meals. The Windjammer buffet was very basic buffet food and if you like that sort of thing you will be fine. I do not like buffets and the Vision Windjammer was below par with recent sailings, but just fine for what it was. Park Café, if it had better opening hours, is a wonderful alternative. The MDR on Vision was excellent at all meals and I had 5 sea days and enjoyed breakfast and lunch very much. Here they had same menu as fleet-wide and great tutti salad at lunch and upgraded buffet at breakfast.
jjy1130 Posted May 12, 2014 #23 Share Posted May 12, 2014 Will be sailing her in 2 weeks, any teething issues with the new crew? A previous review said that they thought the crew was bad/unfriendly. How crowded did the pool deck get during the sea days? Was it possible to find chairs or did the dreaded chair-hogs have their way? Was the gym too crowded in the mornings? berylde Posted May 12, 2014 Author #24 Share Posted May 12, 2014 JJY1130: Not alot of equipment in the gym, but my daughter went every day between 6:30 and 7AM and there wasn't any problem at those hours The crew was friendly but seemed very busy The pool deck on sea days was VERY crowded. Its a small pool for an awful lot of people

I was on the Carnival Freedom and the adult area there opened and closed regularly based on weather. At least it was functional. Oh well, there is always my corner aft balcony 7652.
