Adventure of the Seas - Likes/Dislikes ??

Recommended Posts

Well, I just stepped off the lovely Carnival Breeze :( this past Saturday which was absolutely wonderful in every way, and now I have the "cruise blues" again. A couple of months ago, I booked AOS for next May of 2015 for the Aruba route and have once again something great to look forward to and to help alleviate the "cruise blues" symptoms. :)

I'd like to hear from anyone who has sailed on AOS and what you thought, what you liked/disliked and what you'd like to recommend. DH and I are early 50's. DH is disabled and uses a mobility scooter on the ship. We are booked in an accessible room overlooking promenade.

Also, how does your time dining work and what are some other good dining options I should check out. Are there options that are without the extra fee?

Would like to hear as much about this ship as possible and be pointed to some great pictures as well.

I look forward to returning to Royal (enjoyed my cruise on the Radiance back in 2005).

Thanks!

Let me start by saying my husband and I are in our early sixties and have taken about six cruises. Now we are hooked. About three years ago we were on Adventure of the Seas. We have done the Serenade and Jewel on RCCI also. Our preference is for smaller ships. Adventure is "busy." The promenade is crowded but it offers some great entertainment. The ice show was amazing. There is less glass, looking out to sea, than on other ships. The bars and restaurants were good. We frequently travel with another couple and Adventure is their favorite ship. What I really liked is the staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful. In booking a cruise I really look at the where we are going. If these are the ports you want, you can't go wrong. We usually do MDR for meals, but on one cruise on the Serenade we did My Time Dining. We did not like it. Even though I made reservations before we embarked, we were at a different table every night, some good, some not so good. I understand the ship has been refurbished. I'm sure it is lovely. With all this said, we are now booked on Adventure in March of next year. I want to go to Aruba. As far as I'm concerned all RCCI cruises turn out well. Have fun!

We were on the Adventure last December for a cruise over Christmas week. You are in for a treat. She is a great ship with a wonderful crew. We enjoyed everything about it.

For information specifically about the ship, you can't go wrong by checking out the RCI website section on the Adventure at the link below.

You said you're on the Aruba route and you also said you're interested in seeing pictures. My wife takes pictures and makes them into slide shows for her website. You can see pictures she took of our cruise which includes shore excursions, around the ship, etc. at the link below. I'm not sure whether your itinerary is the same as ours, but ours also included Aruba.

I am on the Adventure next March for the southern itinerary as well. It will be the first time on the Voyager class and I have no doubt it will be great! Looking forward to the cruise on the "mini-Freedom", my favorite so far!

We did a Canaries cruise on the Adventure and had a great time (I am late 50's husband is early 60's). We tried loads of things we had not done for years: ice skating, in line skating, mini golf and I even went rock climbing. The shows were excellent. We had any time dining and the hostess always tried to seat us in the same area so we had the same wait staff. The promenade does get very busy and might be difficult to navigate at times with a mobility scooter. We would cruise on this ship again.

You are exactly right it is a mini freedom. Aos is one of our two davorites, freedom being the other. We love going out of San Juan as we take a few extra days before and after. Love the southern caribbean ports. Always have had great service, staff and experiences. One downside is the theatre shows aren't quite up to freedom, but ice show is comparable. Has virtually everything as freedom class except no flow rider and no sorrento's pizza or cupcake shop. We do aos at least once a year and always do b2b. There are fewer passengers than freedom which is nice in ports and on sea days and it is slightly smaller to navigate which is nice if you have any walking issues. Hope you love it as much as we do!

We are Platinum on Carnival and also on RCI and got most of our points on the AOS have sailed her 3 times and have her booked in 15 and 16 . Likes everything dislikes making us get off LOL. Our favorite thing is booking early and getting one of the coveted corner aft cabins that have wonderful balconies . The Royal Promenade is our favorite place to people watch , and the itinerary is so great. The Ice shows are so much fun . Did I mention we love this ship. :D:p

Thanks so much for all the great info and feedback. I'm doing this for the Aruba and Curacao ports. I've been to St. Thomas numerous times. Been to St Kitts last year and loved it and looking forward to being there again.

Just about an hour ago, we upgraded from promendade view to balcony and took advantage of the new promo... second person is 50% off. Wish I could have gotten an OBC but was told that is for this year's sailings only. Oh well.

We are doing late dining which seems to work out well for us on past cruises.

A few more questions...

1) Where are the smoking areas on the ship?

2) What beverages are available and where ..that are complimentary? I know Windjammer but not sure if cafe promenade has them. And are they accessible all times of day and are they from a self serve dispenser? Or only during hours of operation? We like to periodically fill up a refillable mug and not sure if Royal allows it.

3) Can you view menus and onboard account from the TV in the cabin?

4) Are there self serve guest laundry rooms and if so how much?

Thanks

Smoking on the inside is limited to the casino and Connoisseur Club. Outside will be one side of decks 4, 11, and 12.

Included beverages: tap water, coffee, hot tea, iced tea, lemonade, milk, and juices at breakfast. Cafe Promenade has ice water all the time. Other beverages only in restaurants and from room service.

You can view the onboard account on the TV, but not the menus.

No guest laundry on any Royal ship.

If no guest laundry, is there pull cord over the shower to hang any clothing in case I want to wash something out in the sink?

Also, for the included beverages, are they available at all times? And in which location can you get them? We like to fill up and grab iced tea or lemonade a lot during the day.

Thanks

The showers usually have a pull cord to hang things.

The included beverages are available in restaurants during operating hours and also from room service 24 hours. Cafe Promenade will have ice water available all the time.

No Pizza Place???

OH NO!!!!

My son is going to be so disappointed.

His favourite part of our cruise on Freedom last summer was sitting around the table, nibbling on a slice, late at night, talking about the day we had just spent out and about.

Is there any chance it was being added with the cupcake place in the drydock??

(crossing my fingers and toes)

Chass

So if I want iced tea or lemonade, am I able to go to Windjammer and get it at any time (even if the food counters are closed). Is the Windjammer locked or off limits when food isn't out? On Carnival ships, you could still get iced tea/lemonade/coffee/water/ice from the dispenseries in buffet area 24 hours a day even though the food counters were closed up. Is this the same on Royal? I am just trying to figure out our options (other than getting water at café promenade) for complimentary beverages.

Too bad they don't have guest laundry.

No, you cannot get into Windjammer when it is closed. Some ships have drinks available elsewhere, such as aft of Windjammer on Radiance class ships. However. there's nothing like that on Voyager/Freedom class.

Glad to hear. :) What other types of food selections are available in Café Promendade?

Sandwiches, etc.

Sounds like availability of soda and beverages is a high priority for you. It can be had at any bar for the asking (obviously for a price for soda, water etc is free). Windjammer is not open all hours.

As for Adventure: Sailed 2010-2011-2012. Liked: everything. Disliked: Nothing.:)

We love the AOS...we have been on her twice and would love too for a third time.

Likes...

Taxi fare is cheap from hotel to ship

service in the spa was over the top on our last trip

Quest...amazing fun for adults..

Solarium poolside bar service was great and the staff did a great job of kicking the kids out..

murder mystery dinner was hysterical and fun..the Italian food was great washed down with unlimited wine.

Our room steward had our room made up twice a day and didn't know when he was there..

Main dining room food was very good and many selections.

Dislikes....

There wasnt a CHOPS.. no big deal

Lost money in the casino

Bingo cost me money too

Have a great time!

Do I understand correctly in that if someone were to be thirsty at odd times during the day, they need to ask for iced tea or lemonade from the bar?

Even when the WJ is open, are there other flavored waters (ie: NCL has strawberry kiwi, mango, etc...)?

The bars don't typically have iced tea or lemonade. They do have water and will provide that upon request. It's disappointing to me that you have to go to Windjammer on Voyager/Freedom class ships to get iced tea or lemonade, and if it's closed, then room service is the only alternative.

Some ships have flavored waters in certain venues, such as Park Cafe on Oasis/Allure.
