In time for White Pass excursion?

Skagway -- round trip white pass excursion -- doing this on our own. Ordering tickets and walking to train from dock (short walk?).

Question - the train leaves 8:15 *I think or 8:30 a.m.

Ship scheduled in Skagway 7 am - 9 pm Will I have enough time to get off the ship and get to the train to make the 8:15 (8:30 a.m.) train or should I schedule for the second one that leaves after 12 (noon).

Take the earlier...much less concern for the return to the ship if something goes wrong...and that's just what happened during our last May Alaska cruise...a problem with the train...but at least know that many on the train will have booked with the ship..so they did of course have wait...We booked a private tour with Chilkoot...bus up and train down which left at 8:15am...so glad we weren't on that afternoon besides the problem...what a mass of people waiting at the train station to board that afternoon train.
