AK Dreaming Posted May 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 15, 2014 I understand that everyting is charged on a "cashless" basis but does that mean you have use your room key? Is there a simple way to carry this around while at the pool or dancing. Do you give you card holders? Also, if we are getting the soda plan, will that be a separate card? Island Hopping Posted May 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2014 Your room key is the card you use onboard for all purchases. You also use this card when you get off and on the ship in port of calls. If you buy the soda plan they just affix a sticker to your card. Some people use a lanyard to carry the card around their neck, I just put it my money clip in my pocket. rjack22 Posted May 15, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 15, 2014 They don't give you a "card holder" or lanyard for your sail card/key. You can bring your own and the pursers desk or casino will punch a hole in it for you. Or you can buy a lanyard in the gift shop. I am a woman but I usually just carry mine in my pocket around the ship. Keep it away from magnets though as it will wipe it clean. And if you don't want a hole punched in your card you can also get a clear plastic sleeve to hold it. Of course then you will need to remove it from the sleeve to use it. Bell Range Posted May 15, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 15, 2014 My husband and I go together most places, so I just give him my room card and it goes in his wallet with his. I am not big on hanging it around my neck. Why get all dressed nice to have that ugly thing hanging on your neck? If I go it alone, I usually have a pocket to put it in. Bogof1 Posted May 15, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 15, 2014 You can get free lanyards in the casino on embarkation, they will punch the card too to attach it!
bhopal21 Posted May 15, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 15, 2014 You can get free lanyards in the casino on embarkation, they will punch the card too to attach it! I agree. We always get the free lanyards in the casino and get them to punch the card as well. Mike:)
AKman2495 Posted May 15, 2014 #8 Share Posted May 15, 2014 Yes, my favorite phrase to my DW is "make sure you have your cruise card" whenever we leave the room. I always wear shirts with pockets, where it fits nicely. (When wearing my tux it goes in the jacket pocket.) If you don't have pockets, lanyards are a good way to go too. You will have your cruise card with you in order to gain access to your cabin. And like others said there will be a sticker applied to the card if you purchase a beverage plan. Cruisin' Chick Posted May 15, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 15, 2014 I use the lanyard/plastic sleeve method. On formal nights, it goes into my purse. I'm not a swimmer, so I don't need to take it off, but I may hold on to hubby's card, which he usually keeps in his pants pocket.
Rare insidecabin Posted May 15, 2014 #11 Share Posted May 15, 2014 why on earth do you need a wallet on a ship ? Card and a few folded $ does everything you need except take pictures then you need a camera.
AKman2495 Posted May 16, 2014 #12 Share Posted May 16, 2014 why on earth do you need a wallet on a ship ? Card and a few folded $ does everything you need except take pictures then you need a camera. Absolutely. One of the first things I do when I get on board is put the passports and my wallet in the safe along with the cash. The only cash I carry is when I head to the casino... It is a weird feeling at first to walk around without a wallet, but it is great after a while.
paul929207 Posted May 16, 2014 #13 Share Posted May 16, 2014 Most people c keep their cruise card in a pocket, a purse or hang it on a lanyard. Since the cruise card is also your cabin key you will need to carry it.
timesurfer7 Posted May 16, 2014 #14 Share Posted May 16, 2014 I bought one of those things that go around the wrist to use for my card. I don't like the lanyard around my neck. I purchased it at the dollar store. Have fun on your cruise. Oh keep any eye on the coke sticker as it tends to fall off.
BroncoLvrs Posted May 16, 2014 #15 Share Posted May 16, 2014 (edited) I don't consider my Sea Pass an ugly thing. It costs more than most of my other necklaces. :D Great point Doris! I too wear mine on a lanyard. We purchase coffee cards and I put them in a plastic pouch attached to my lanyard. Treven Posted May 16, 2014 #16 Share Posted May 16, 2014 (edited) ... Keep it away from magnets though as it will wipe it clean. ... Also if you have your camera hanging from your neck and you have your Sail Card on a lanyard, your camera will wipe out your card. I went through a couple cards one cruise before one of the Purser's staff thought to ask me if I carried my camera on a strap around my neck. When I said that I do, he explained that the two don't "play well together". After switching my stock camera strap to a Black Rapid strap (which goes over the shoulder for those who aren't familiar with the brand) I haven't had any problems with my Sail pass. Ldyandrea Posted May 16, 2014 #18 Share Posted May 16, 2014 Also beware of putting your card in a purse or clutch bag with a magnetic closure....I had to replace my card due to that before! :) Sent from my iPhone using Forums
