Celebrity Solstice for younger couple?

My wife and I, along with another couple who are 30 are planning on going on the Solstice next year to go to Alaska. The itinerary is nice and ship seems nice as well, but after reading some reviews it seems that there may not be alot of activities geared toward us. I looked to see what the ship offers, but didn't see mention of a night club or too many bars. In fact the ship highlights are pretty bare on the Celebrity site.

We aren't interested in a party boat, but would like to know there is some activity after 9 pm each night, and things to do during the day other than art shows otherwise I feel we may get bored while sailing.

Any other couples our age go on Solstice and give some feedback?

Alaska itineraries will have a good mix of age groups -- many families, young couples, honeymooners, as well as older cruisers. They are busy and port intensive. Right now there is a cruiser who is posting Daily Activity sheets from his Alaska cruise so you can get a look at the options during the sea days.

I haven't been on an Alaskan cruise or on that particular ship, but we've always had a great time on any Celebrity ship we are on. We are closer to 50 now, but started cruising on Celebrity about 15 years ago. Every night there will be production shows, the casino (always one of our favorite spots) and many bars to chose from. I have heard that Alaskan cruises are very tiring, so maybe someone with more experience will fill you in a bit more. We've also been on Royal twice and Carnival once, and have fun on all of them.

I'm in your age group so let's see if I can give you some relevant info.

In general, you will find the passengers on all lines in Alaska to be older in comparison to the line's passengers in other places (like the Caribbean). Also, you will find the activities and excursions in Alaska to be relatively active and tiring doing the same comparison! I say that because on my last cruise, I was so tired from doing things like hiking a glacier that I was even falling asleep at dinner! Alaska cruises are pretty active and intense - long days with little darkness, rugged adventures, etc.

All of that said, the passenger ages in Alaska are all over the place (though on average older) and the activities can even take down a younger passenger. (Us) You aren't going to find lots of really late activities on any line in Alaska, barring a large group planning them, just by nature of this these things. Night life and Alaskan cruises just don't typically go hand in hand.

Hope that helps! Enjoy your cruise.

We're about a decade older but just got back from an alaskan cruise on the solstice. The passengers were anywhere from very young to very old. I'd say the age graph was a very steep bell curve with a peak around 50. At 30, you're definitely going to be in the minority and if you're looking for nightclubs and bars, I wouldn't expect much. I think Quasar is meant for what you're looking for but the only tine I saw people in there was for a kids activity, a bracelet sale, and karaoke. I think I did more bar hopping off the ship.

The ship was great and Alaska was beautiful. If you'd like any other opinions or info, let me know.

We are also just off the Solstice Alaska cruise. rrkman is right about the age mix. They had a couple of late night shows starting at 10.30 which we enjoyed. As for afternoon entertainment on sea days, they are definately looking to put on more theatre shows at that time. The house band, Top Knotch, play in the Sky Lounge at 10.30 pm for dancing. If you spend your days hiking, whale watching, zip lining, mountain biking and kayaking, you will be too tired to care if there is a disco. In any case, the Martini Bar is the best entertainment on the ship!

Our daughters and their husbands are 28-30. They would be on the Solstice in a heart beat if they got the opportunity. We started taking them on Celebrity ships when they were about 12. They have loved every minute of it!

My husband and I are in our lower 30s, and we're heading to Alaska in less than two weeks!

Here's a link to some recent Dailies from Solstice Alaska for your viewing pleasure:

Also, we found a great variety of excursions. Some ports we will be taking it easy with a guided tour while at other ports we will be hiking or ziplining.

And via our roll call, we've heard SPECTACULAR things about the Martini Bar! Can't wait to see it, try it, and enjoy it!

We are interested in late events, especially with it still seeming light outside so late up north. We're planning on the late theater show, bar nights, and maybe even hot tub time under the stars (if not too chilly and open late enough--it closes at some point *sad face*). Also, we might enjoy a night away from Blu and try a specialty restaurant later in the evening.

Just some ideas. :D

Wow! The responses have been super helpful and really sold me. You are all right, I am trying to compare this to a Caribbean cruise where you relax on the beach, but this will more intense and will be tiring, which is ok!

We do plan on doing many of the fun excursions, so this was a huge help.

Thanks everyone! We will be on the May 8th 2015 voyage. Can't wait!

We just left the solstice today and are in our early 40s....but we play like we're in our 20s. You will be fine. While there is a wide variety of ages, we met many people our age in the martini bar and the molecular bar. Did not visit quasar because no one (and I mean no one) was in there. Our group was very active until well past midnight every night. For those going in the next few weeks, Igede was awesome in the martini bar.
