Currently on board the Regatta and having a wonderful time!! Today was a beautiful day spent in Astoria, Oregon with blue sky and sunshine...Since crossing the bar of the Columbia River to the Pacific Ocean is very dangerous, there were 2 pilots on board - 1 river pilot and 1 bar pilot. They boarded in Astoria as we departed and safely guided us over the bar known as the "Graveyard of the Pacific". Once back out in the Pacific Ocean, a helicopter came out, circled the ship and then lowered a rope to the aft area of the ship, pulled up each pilot, one at a time, circled the ship waving at all of us and then headed back to Astoria.

What a unique experience for all us -

Now North to Alaska!!!
