Saw this in the local paper & thought it would be helpful for Liberty cruisers. For a hotel under 100 euros a night, try Hotel Cancelli Ross (http://www.cancellirossi.it) or Hotel Mach 2 (http://www.nycerome.com). Both are close to a stop for the airport shuttle that starts running at 7am. Price is 5 euros (about $6) and you pick up the shuttle in front of the Mach 2. Both hotels rates start at $95 (about 79 euros) for a single.

There's also a Euro House Inn - no web-site but can be found at http://www.romeby.com, which can provide airport shuttle on request and charges 89 euros or $107 a night. Hilton Rome airport http://www.hilton.com is the only hotel within airport's boundaries but cheapest rate is about $164 per night.

Just wondering if anyone thought about taking the train from Livorno to Florence.

The ship offers a do-it yourself tour, but it's $75pp. You can take the train directly from the station in Livorno for 12 euros pp roundtrip. You need to take a cab to the train station for around $20 each way, but it still makes sense.

There's so much to see in Florence that we want to do as much as we can in one day!

We took the train from Livorno to Florence. We caught the 8:11 am train and were in Florence by 9:30am. WE left Florence around 1 and arrived in Pisa around 2pm. It was no problem at all with the exception of there being a fire on the tracks and we were unable to take the train back from Pisa. This is not the norm so I was told and all worked out just find. There were several of us and we all shared cabs from Pisa to Livorna. Had we been able to get the train from Pisa to Livorna it was only a 10 minute trip. . Some passengers and crew were stranded on the train from Florence but the ship waited for them. I suggest you carry the ship contact number in case of such a situation at all times. We really enjoyed doing it on our own and despite the problems feel we saw far more of Florence and Pisa than if we had gone with a tour. The train station in Florence is an easy walk to everything and you can walk from the train station in Pisa to the tower as well.

Howison,

Since you had an aft cabin, were you on your balcony when you arrived in Venice or up on deck? We have an aft cabin and will be on Liberty next month, just trying to get an idea of what we should do when arriving in Venice. Thanks for any input you can give.
