bootsiecat Posted May 26, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2014 What is the dress code for meals on the Viking River cruise? Slacks and shirts (long or short as weather requires)? Or more dressy? Capris OK? What about lunch? No shorts, of course, but anything else acceptable for cruising and touring??
Cary Cruiser Posted May 26, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 26, 2014 They should make a sticky for this question. It keeps getting asked over and over. You can do a search for "dress code" and turn up a whole bunch of threads on this subject. Here is a link to a rather recent long thread on it. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2002818&highlight=dress+code
pacmom Posted May 26, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 26, 2014 Cary cruiser, was just thinking along the same lines when I read the original post. Good idea about a sticky. DH never brings a sport jacket unless we have plans off the boat that require a jacket. Pat
Rare pinotlover Posted May 27, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 27, 2014 The answer is simple, we are talking about Viking. Viking has no enforced dress code, period. People do, in fact, wear shorts, sweat pants, t shirts, and whatever they please to dinner. Viking's policy is being comfortable. If one wears his baseball hat to Joe's Greasy Spoon, and fills comfortable, then he will probably likewise wear it to dinner aboard ship. Some of the patrons choose to dine as if the dining room, at dinner, is a very nice restaurant, while others dress as if they're going through the drive through at McDonalds. Pursuant to Viking's policy as enforced, both are acceptable. Enjoy your cruise and dress accordingly!
jiminyC_fan Posted May 28, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 28, 2014 Quite honestly, we saw everyone dress appropriately and never like a McDonalds. Just a nice top, skirt, pants or blue jeans. We didn't go in the summertime so never saw capri's but I think paired with a nice top it would be very acceptable. Men pretty much wore a nice collared shirt, nice slacks or blue jeans. Never saw hats, sweat pants, or tshirts in any of the dining rooms.
pacmom Posted May 28, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 28, 2014 Four of our 19 river cruises have been on Viking. Never saw baseball caps or sweats in the dining room. Lately dressy jeans have been appearing. Personally would not sit with someone wearing a ball cap at the dinner table or lunch or breakfast for that matter. If the weather is warm capris with a nice top is quite acceptable for meals. OP's suggestion for men is spot on.
